Okay, well the agent lied to you about at least one thing. They do send personal emails.

Of course your representative will say not to trust us! We're making her look bad!

You can send the agent's name, employee number, favorite color, pet dog's name.... anything you want. It won't do diddly. You're authorized for an OWP if you apply Inland after Stage 1 approval. It doesn't matter if you have a job already. All that matters if 1) you've applied for Inland PR spouse; 2) you have passed Stage 1 (AIP); 3) you filled out the forms, mailed them in, and paid the application fee. All you need to write is "Spousal OWP - Please process after AIP."

For the record, having that employee's name and number won't do you any good if you get caught working after your IEC expires/before you get the OWP. For one, that employee can and will say he/she never told you that. Second, CBSA doesn't care what an agent at the Call Centre told you. If you're working without status, you are working without status. End of story.

It's up to you to decide what to do - but if you decide to keep working, best hope CBSA doesn't find out.
Where should I write "Spousal OWP - Please process after AIP"?

Other than that, I gotcha *nods* and thank you. I want to do things as properly as possible.

Free advice will render her redundant!
I'm actually getting her assistance for free too! But unlike this forum she deals with all sorts of topics and so her learning curve on this is basically on par with mine. Minus today, I think I'm ahead now...!

There are places that ask about employer and LMO information. That's where you write in that info.

So she's "learning with you" but tells you not to trust people who have been through the process. Hahahah.... I'm going to go giggle myself silly. :p :p :p

Hehehe. Like most people I was trusting her word because it was CIC's word. Until now of course. It really just blows my mind that the official source of information isn't official at all. But I just don't have the heart to tell her that because she has given me so much of her time! Time to go solo.

This is me perhaps just grasping at straws... but do these CIC Help centre pages count for as little as the help lines?

It's generic. Doesn't address the exact situation. As it's been said, your status must qualify to be extended in order to be extended.

The second one is more for you. You're changing from an IEC visa to a spousal open work permit.

Hi James,

I am also in the exact same situation as you, My Lawyer has stated many times that I can still work on Implied Status while I wait for my Work Permit to arrive, he has also given me a copy of someone elses visa he is processing at the moment and he had a letter from the CIC stating that he is on Implied Status and can continue working.

I can scan and upload the document if needed.

Wait... so even with the new fandangled BridgingOWP I wouldn't be able to work while they were processing the app?? I have a IEC WHP visa expiring Aug 2013 and I applied PR CEC in Nov 2012... if I applied BOWP then technically I can't get implied status since it is coming off IEC? I could only work once the BOWP was actually approved?

Indeed - it happened to somebody who was going through London VO not so long ago. They had gotten the information from CIC agents that it was OK to keep on working on IEC visa if applying for Inland... but then after working for a few months, it was confirmed that it was indeed illegal and the person was "escorted" by CBSA to the border. Makes the whole PR application way longer and trickier.
Save yourself some trouble: go through London VO, dont' work until your PR is approved (outland) or you have an OWP (inland).

I know I'm digging up a old post here but there's no proof this did happen.

I know a lot of people now who have applied In-land and also submitted and OWP at the same time of applying for the PR. They're IEC visa which was running out before they received the OWP or getting to the 1st stage of the PR process. They have still continued to stay on and work with there current employer until they have received the OWP and nothing has happened to them.

This is another example below. That this person who applied for PR In-land and OWP at the same who's IEC visa was running out in August. The CIC must have noticed that his current IEC work permit was expiring and that he can still continue to work until the 1st stage has been process and he has his OWP

To be honest, its in Black and white there...If I am sent this email from the CIC I am going to continue working without a doubt when my IEC expires as its solid evidence.

Keep in mind, everything is a case by case basis. So while it may not have happened to someone else, it COULD happen to you. If you want to take that risk, go for it. CIC is notorious for saying one thing and then telling you "Disregard that" or "that does not apply to you". Just a fair, friendly warning.
