Hi everyone!

On the advice of folks here, myself (Canadian) and my husband (American) have decided to file for permanent residency via the outland method, even though we are living in Canada. I finally have the application ready to go (stupid FBI clearance took forever to get!) and am not quite sure how to mail this. I saw that all new family applications must go to Mississauga- ok, got it. But how do I indicate that I want it to then be forwarded to Buffalo for outland processing? I didn't see any forms or anything. I'm sure I'm being dense, and this is quite obvious, but a little help would be great! Thanks!

You send it to Mississauga then after sponsorship approval they will forward it to Ottawa for processing. There is no option to select where to process, in any case I don't believe there is a visa office in Buffalo.

It's automatic (and you do NOT want it to go to Buffalo for processing)! CIC will route the application to the proper location. Just be sure that you have in fact assembled an Outland application, because it's not exactly the same as the inland application...and make sure to mail it to the proper address for Outland applications. Also, spend the extra money and get delivery confirmation and/or tracking on your parcel!

Most Americans have their Outland application processed entirely in Canada; Mississauga for stage 1 (sponsor approval), then Ottawa for stage 2 (applicant approval). This is why most Americans complete the process in ~ 8-10 months.

Good luck!

Awesome, thank you! Not quite sure where I got the idea that it goes to Buffalo (old info, maybe?) But I'm glad to hear that CIC takes care of it. I'm fairly certain I filled out the required docs for outland, but just to be sure, its the ones listed in guide #3900, correct? cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/3900ETOC.asp

I found the list of addresses for Mississauga, and it differentiates between outland and inland, except for the courier address. That one should still be ok, right? cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/canada/mississauga.asp

Thanks again!
