I'm sponsoring my husband, American citizen. We're filing outland application. We are currently living together in Canada since September. My husband has a visitor status and we'll apply for extension, if necessary.
I'm worried about our current living arrangement and the info we're providing in the application.

In his application, we stated that he lives in the US (gave his brother's address). All of his mail goes there. We listed that address on the application in a bunch of places (current address, list of addresses in the last 10 years etc). Do we also list our Canadian address there or do we maintain just the US address for him?
I'm completing the Sponsored Spouse Questionnaire and there's a question whether the sponsor and spouse live together and I want to say yes but that sort of contradicts the info we provided on the other forms. I'm freaking out. What to do?

There is absolutely no issue with listing his current residence in Canada. There is no need to give an American address.

Really? I thought that's the whole point of "outland" vs "inland". I'm confused right now.

I read dozens of threads and didn't find an answer to my question. Hence, I made this post.

I did this five years ago and my husband's application was processed in four months. There's no need to hide the fact he's in Canada. Here's what I'd recommend:

- List his residential address as an address in the US (if he has an address in the US - if not, list the Canadian one)
- List his mailing address as your address in Canada so that you get all of the mail.
- Say yes to the living together question and state that he's "living with you as a visitor in Canada"

By the time we applied, my husband had been "living with me as a visitor in Canada" for the better part of three years. He traveled in and out of Canada a great deal during those three years - but 80%+ of his time was spent in Canada.

You have absolutely nothing to worry about, as long as your husband maintains his valid visitor status. Forget about the inland application, they take 3x as long and even CIC does not recommend it, also he won't be able to leave Canada while inland app is processed. Think of it this way - your husband files outland application while visiting you in Canada, there is nothing wrong with that.

Thank you! I think that makes sense.

Outland vs Inland only refers to the office in which the application is processed (and the route that it takes - ie being able to dispute an application if denied, ability to work while waiting, etc).

Inland means the application is being processed within Canada. One of the inland requirements is that the applicant must reside in Canada.

Outland means the application is being processed at a VO outside of Canada (generally the applicants country of origin). There is no requirement for outland applicants to reside in a specific country throughout the application process. One exception to this rule is that US applicants are generally processed in Mississauga or Ottawa, even when they have applied Outland.
