Hi all!
At the Last minute my husband and I changed our minds about doing an inland application... I'm a US citizen and him Canadian. When I entered Jan 1 2013 I received a visitor record from the immigration officer and it permits me to stay until June 30, 2013. I plan on flying home for a nursing capstone June 11-22nd. This being said I'm a bit puzzled about what to do here... Should I file to a visitor visa extension prior to leaving Canada so it's good for when I hopefully can return? Or will that be irrelevant after I leave Canada? What are my chances of being allowed back into Canada after only leaving for 2 weeks and wanting to return? If its a huge hassle I may just stay in the states and work for a bit-not what I want to do tho! Any insight would be great-on the verge on seeking legal advice. This immigration stuff is getting beyond old. Just ready to relax with my hubby and get a job! Ugh.
if we did inland is that a terrible idea? I think I'm already flagged?

Don't apply for an extension before you leave. Once you leave your extension is void. You are from a visa exempt country. Why did they give you a visitor record? You never know if they will give you a hard time about reentering. Also, you can apply outland while still in Canada. If you wish you can make your application outland while here in Canada. Once you plan to return bring copies of receipt and paperwork and usually the CBSA is accommodating.

Do you know why they flagged you?

I had my cat with me and no return flight... We were engaged at the time. Got married first week of this month-the lady was really rude and quite literally said "you're of working age-sitting around for 6 months here you'll be bored-if this was the 50's it'd make more sense to me." Guessing it was the end of her shift...

Little did she know we both saved money and worked our asses off when we lived together in the states so we would be capable of doing this... And I would be studying for my capstone

Wow, guess she was having a bad day. It is a risk returning to the U.S. on whether or not you will be readmitted and one that you will have to decide if you want to take or not but you can't apply for an extension before you go. Good luck on your decision.

Thanks for the insight. So just make sure to bring paperwork from PR app with me? My husband wasn't going to come with due to work-but if it helps with reentering we were considering it?

Not sure about whether it would help or not (husband being with you) but if you plan on putting in your application beforehand (I advise going outland as it is faster)take copies of your pr app with you and receipt of payment. When re-entering let them know that you plan on staying during the pr process. It also wouldn't hurt to bring bank statements and such to prove that you are financially able to handle being unemployed. If they give you a hard time about being unemployed just let them know your options and you chose to be with your husband.
