Hi everybody :)
So we just got married, the only thing that is missing from the application is my medical examinations which i'll take next Wednesday, for now i have 2 questions:

- We'll send the record of marriage paper we got at the wedding because it takes 3 months to get the marriage certificate, i know this is on the grey border, but has anyone here sent an outland application with the record of marriage? if yes can you please share your experience?

- Is it ok if we staple the forms or we should arrange them some other way?

Thank you!

I'm pretty sure they actually need the marriage certificate, but if you send the record of marriage along with an explanation on when you plan to send the certificate, it should be ok.

Don't staple anything. You can use a paper clip, and some people use tabbed dividers between sections and/or cover sheets. No staples or tape or anything of that sort though.

You should include proof that you are married - such as the marriage certificate.

If you are unable to then I suggest providing a letter stating that the marriage certificate takes x months/days to get and that you will send it to them once you receive it. Be sure to include any other wedding related proof (such as receipts for reception, florists, photographer, pictures, wedding invitation etc).

There are 3 outcomes to submitting your application without a marriage certificate

  • CIC will write to you and say they need the marriage certificate before sponsor approval
  • CIC will process sponsor approval as for SA they do not look at eligibility
  • CIC will return your application because of a missing document

Number 2 in the above list is most likely to happen if you ask me, as many people have done similar with police clearance certificates and there has been no problem. Just be aware that you run the risk of having your application sent back.

Good luck!

I have another 2 questions please,

1. I'm from Israel, i'm required to fill the "supplementary information form" in the immigrant's guide, on top of the form i have to indicate my name, the date, and fill another field called "File #", anyone has any idea what's that field?

2. When the process ends in the future, i'll have to "leave" canada and come back in to the airport as "landed immigrant", the thing is that i don't have visa for the states and i don't wanna go back to Israel so i come back to the airport, is there any other way to do it?

Thank you!

1. When your application is received by CIC a unique File/Applicant number will be assigned to it. You can ignore that field and leave it blank.
2. When you have your COPR you can arrange a meeting at CIC, depending on where you currently are. This takes longer and the waiting time to arrange a landing appointment depend on the office(s) nearest to you.

Good luck!

You can either make an appointment at an office to land inland, or you can flagpole at the border. Since you need a visa to enter the US, the officer at the border can "administratively refuse" you entry and allow you to go over to the Canadian side.

At the very end when you get your COPR. Just leave the file field blank, unless you have a UCI number from a visa application.

flagpoling would be a much quicker and easier way, for inland appointment you have to call them and then wait...

Is it something that will be saved in my Canadian records after i get the PR, will the American officer flag my Israeli passport before they let me go back to Canada? If i take the bus from Toronto to new york i'll be fine?

Thank you.
