Out of status quesion

My husband (sponsor) and I (primary applicant / US citizen) are going on vacation to Jamaica in a few days for a friend's wedding. The entire wedding party and most of the wedding guests are flying from TO Pearson to Jamaica (we are all originally from Jamaica). I wanted to go to CT to visit my mom just overnight and pick up a few things for my newborn niece (her granddaughter in Jamaica) to carry with us as gifts. While getting everything ready to make that trip this coming weekend I realized that I have been here for over 8 consecutive months already! :cry: I come here for 6 months at a time usually. The last time I came to Canada I used Nexus and never got a stamp or anything. I never had to remember how long i was staying because I didn't have to speak to an IO about it. I think maybe that's why I didn't realize.... I don't know... I'm not sure how I didn't realize. I feel terrible! We filed outland so now I am way out of status and I'm deathly afraid of crossing the border to see my mom because I'm almost certain I'll be denied entry back to Canada. I can get over if I can't come back right away because I understand my severe oversight. Whether or not if I am denied entry will affect my outland app which should be done by June is another story but.... I guess we will cross that bridge when we get there.

But since I have Nexus does anyone know if I can just drive across the border for the day and come back so I can catch the flight out of TO to leave Canada? I will only be here but 2 days after I return from CT should I be let back in. If it were any other time I wouldn't be so frantic but we spent so much money for this wedding trip between the airline tickets and the hotel that I'm losing my mind :/ Has anyone ever been in this situation before?

There will be no issue leaving Canada. However none of us can tell you whether you will be allowed back into Canada or not since that decision is up to the immigration official you encounter at the border. You should have no issues as an American - however ultimately it's impossible to say. It would be best if your sponsor accompanied you when you re-enter Canada. You should also carry proof the sponsorship application is underway.

She can - but it doens't make sense to do so given how soon she plans to leave Canada and the fact that restorations typically take months to process. I also don't think this will really change anything at the border. Again, as an American she "should" have no issues re-entering.

Hi Ponga! Yes everything was fine. I came back and no one batted an eyelash. I left again and came back and that was even more uneventful.
