We also have very good reasons for small wedding.
Both families are not in canada, for financial reasons and most importantly it's just what we are comfortable with at the moment, we are both introverted and just prefer small gatherings over large one, is it a requirement ti have a big wedding? I'm not sure if that'll mess up our application
As someone has already indicated you have to think critically like a visa officer. You met when your spouse was already out of status, you had a very small wedding without family which is not typical and you are planning on another wedding with family this wedding was only for sponsorship reasons. Had it not been for your spouses lack of status I assume there would be a good chance that you would have waited for your parents to attend your wedding.

Excellent point that I admittedly overlooked.
Since the spouse was already out of status for ~ 2 years before they were together, it certainly does add more scrutiny on the part of IRCC.

Hard to say if the small wedding, in and of itself, is problematic; more of an issue if it's not customary in their culture (DRC and Nigeria).
