dangerJones,

Congrats ! Which Airlines do you ride from Vietnam towards Canada? Which city are you gonna land in?

Thanks jnathan :) We flew with Korean Air from HCMC to Seoul and then to Toronto. All went well, the landing in Toronto was quick and easy thanks to the advice from everyone here. I'll post a little more about our landing in the landing questions thread I started (http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/landing-in-canada-is-it-painless-t99730.0.html), but overall it took about an hour from the initial greeting at the entry booth, through the immigration counter, over to baggage claim and through customs. After that we dropped our bags back on the conveyor for our connection to Ottawa and grabbed a much-needed lunch to celebrate her landing! ;D

We are thinking of everyone here too, especially those of you who are on the interview list. We will say some special prayers tonight in the hopes that things will go much faster than you expect.

Good Luck DangerJones.

I thought people from there ride on Singapore Airlines.
Anyways, Have a pleasant flight.

DangerJones, congrats to you and your wife on safe landing in Canada :D
I'm sure you guys are adjusting to Eastern Standard Time zone bit by bit every day now.

Jnathan, there are quite a number of airlines serving HCM City and Toronto or Vancouver routes. You have quite a selection from Cathay Pacific (via Hongkong), EVA Air (via Taipei), Korean Air (via Seoul), Japan Airlines (via Tokyo), and even Air Canada (via Hongkong or Tokyo).

Hi everyone,
I received good news today by email from VO Singapore. They waived my wife's interview and asked me if my wife could arrange to arrive in Canada before her medical exam expires on May 18, 2012. We feel so lucky after 9 months of the waiting game. This is a copy of the email.

"We are currently reviewing (my wife's name)'s application and her medical will expire on 18 May 2012 soon. Do you think she can land in Canada before that date and if your answer is yes. Please ask her to submit her passport to IOM in Ho Chi Minh City who will then transfer to our office in Singapore. If this is not possible, we will then reissue medical to her and she will have to redo. You are to advise us as soon as possible so that we can advise IOM in Ho Chi Minh City.
Sincerely,
Immigration Section | Section d'immigration
High Commission of Canada | Haut Commissariat du Canada

Best of luck to all who are still anxiously waiting. I really feel for you. Let's hope and wish everyone will reunite soon.

Hi stevent,

First off congratulation... Can you post your timeline? My wife's medical is set to expire in mid June, hopefully we get the same result.

Sure, CTC027. Here's my timeline:
Full application received by CPC Mississauga: June 29, 2011
CHC Singapore received and started processing: August 25, 2011
CHC Singapore emailed re Medical Exam: April 10, 2012

One more thing, my eCAS has never been updated at all during the process. It has never gone to "In Process" or "Medical Received" etc... like other people's eCAS. I think CIC does not have a certain routine or guidelines in updating eCAS which makes us all more anxious.

Best of luck and wishes to you. Hope to hear good news from you soon. :D

Ya, That is what someone else told me

their Ecas directly turned into Decision Made , they never saw Medical Received but they did see IN PROCESS. you might have missed that as it stayed for may be a day or two.

DangerJones, congratulations on your safe landing. Hope your wife is making good adjustment to the beautiful Ottawa. Was she surprised at how much space and land we have in Canada? Any comment on the snow?!

Regarding baggages, did you have to ship anything separately or were you able to bring everything at landing? We plan to ship over 200kg of belongings by sea. Would love to hear from anyone who had experience with this. Thanks.

200 Kilos ! omg.
Would you list the items here?
which shipping carrier are you gonna choose? how much it will cost? how many days ?

Has anyone who received the 1st interview letter 6 months ago or more hear anything from Singapore.
Anyone that is going to interview in HCMC and already received letter with time and place of interview can you keep us informed of the process.

I just got very worried. My Vietnamese wife is learning English in Vietnam. I don't speak Vietnamese. When we first met as pen pals her English was really bad. She has been going to the American school in Vietnam. Real expensive but its everyday 2hrs 90hr total. She has taken 4 of these courses she has improved but I don't feel it is sufficient to answer all questions that the VO will ask her. I was thinking of an interpreter that I would pay. The questions she understands well she can answer in English the more complicated questions she can answer in Vietnamese. Is this possible or am I dreaming in 3D

Hi Canadianfirst,
I think the VO will provide a Vietnamese-English interpreter for the interview. I doubt it if you can bring a paid interpreter for the interview though unless that is a common practice. I'm sorry I can't be of a big help as my wife's interview was waived.
I personally think your wife should answer the interview questions in Vietnamese and let the interpreter translate them to English. It is of her advantage to do so if she can't understand and respond to the interview questions in English well.
Hopefully, someone on this forum has had that experience that can help you further.
Best of luck.
