Hello and happy new year to all.

My wife and I are nearing the point of sending our application off and have just noticed this "option c printout" caper on the checklist. We live in the UK, and have done so since 2001. She hasn't paid taxes in Canada since then. Is the option c still required?

Thanks for the help.

Please call CRA and they may have one for you. If not, the only assumptions is she did not owe any tax to the government and it would not hurt to file a tax return to get that Option C.

If you have lived in the UK since 2001 and have not filed taxes in Canada then an Option C printout is not available. In this case you need to photocopy a couple of your UK tax returns showing your income and source and it should be fine. Option C is to ensure that you are not receiving welfare!!

No - Option C is not required if you have not been paying taxes in Canada. Just get the UK equivalent ( can't remember the name, but if you go and ask in the "london thread" they will tell you ), to show how much money you have been making, and that you have not been on welfare in the UK, and it should be fine. In the Western Europe guideline, you'll see what else than an Option C you can submit if Option C doesn't apply to you.
GOod luck,
Sweden

Hmmm... I think my question was poorly worded. My wife is the Canadian and is sponsoring me (a Brit). She moved here when we got married in 2001 and has worked here ever since. What we have in the UK is the P60 which only demonstrates how much money was earned, and how much tax and NI was deducted in the previous tax year. It in no way offers any clue as to whether someone has been on welfare.

Hi Sniprat ,
I'm in the same situation. Canadian citizen who lives in Israel.
I got the Israeli equivalent and also send them an explanation letter as to why I don't have an Option C print out.
I also add a letter of employment for myself as they require, which shows that I have been employed for past 12 months.

I was already approved as a sponsor, so I guess it satisfied them...
Best of luck, Sharona :D

For me, I have been out of the country for 5 years working, and have not paid taxes since then. I got my Option C (via phone call to CRA) sent to my family, who then mailed it to me. I was advised to include it even if it was for 2007 (last tax year), along with my current salary statement.

My sponsorship was approved this Dec, so no problems there.

Thanks both of you. I guess it is a case of if in doubt, put it in.
