Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
HI,

Is there any way I can get my Notice of Assessment without calling CRA.
I am currently out of Canada and cannot call the 1800 number listed.

Also another question is I have not filed my returns for 2012 and 2013 as I was out of the country. Is it ok to submit the Option C printout for the year 2011?

Thanks

i just did a quick search and this came up http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/cntct/ntrntnlnqrs-eng.html
there are some numbers you can try to call from outside of CA.

good luck!

I'm also pretty sure you can call everything except emergency numbers if you have a skype account. It will cost you money but it works.

Ok will buy a calling card and try again.

Randomly reading threads. If you want to call a Canadian number and you are in the US you can use Gmail. All calls between US and Canada and vice versa are free.

From my experience calling outside Canada Skype will work on some 888 & most 800 numbers (FREE), same with gmail (only with paid credit though). I've tried the CIC HELP line number on both and unfortunately it worked on neither. Haven't tried the CRA number though, give it a try on Skype.

But it seems your main question hasn't actually been fully addressed. (Also another question is I have not filed my returns for 2012 and 2013 as I was out of the country. Is it ok to submit the Option C printout for the year 2011?) I'm no expert on the subject but when I prepared my application I was told the most current year was the one. If you go back to 2011 and admit that you didn't file the last two years I doubt CIC will rat you out to CRA but they may want to know if you were truly resident in Canada those years, and I gather the main proof for them is the Option C. Unless your tax situation is incredibly complicated you should be able to get filed up to date pretty easily....but then not sure how quickly CRA could produce an Option C from that?

My dad is an accountant and the tax returns will actually get processed pretty quickly once they're sent away. The fastest is if you go somewhere where they can electronically file the returns....one example is H&R block but I wouldn't ever recommend them. Normally your accountant can check online to see if the return has been processed, and once it has you can call and request the option C printout which takes about 10 days to come in the mail.

I would say that you will absolutely need the most current years printout because it is this piece of paper that tells them if you have been collecting welfare, and I understand from other threads that you have to be off of welfare for at least 1 year to qualify as a sponsor. They wouldn't be able to tell this without that printout.

You MIGHT be able to get away with explaining that you haven't filed your taxes yet, and when you get around to filing them you will send them the printout, BUT considering that SA is taking less than a month, you wouldn't be saving any time by doing it that way. Sure they would have your application but they won't make a decision without that printout so if someone picks it up to work on it and you haven't sent in the form yet you're application will just sit there in limbo until they receive it. (I'm assumming that if you put a letter in there with an explanation, that they won't send it back for being incomplete but I'm not 100% on that)

Thanks for replying to my second question agarand8 and Gumper
The reason why I have not filed taxes for the year 2012 and 2013 is that I have been out of Canada for 2 years. I worked only 3 months in 2012.
So that's why I am asking . I worked the full year in 2011.
But as Gumper mentioned if all they need to know is if I was on Social assistance then I don't mind filing my 2012 and 2013 tax returns and requesting Option C printout for 2013.
The only down side is that this whole process with take a month!!! Wondering if its worth it only only mention on a separate paper that I was out of the country and not on social assistance during 2012 and 2013.

Any Suggestions guys... Please help.

They're unlikely to just take your word for it. They're going to want the form.

Kev85, a month in the scheme of things (and even as it pertains to this process) isn't much....dare I say "just get on with it!" (filing & obtaining the Option C). Actually your filing process should be that much easier if you had little or no income for the 2 years. If you did make something outside Canada you should probably technically be reporting it, but if it's not a lot maybe it doesn't matter. File, get the OC, send in your app, with a note explaining your financial circumstances even, CIC might take the full disclosure as a point in your favour.
