Option C Print out or alternatives

I'm putting the final touches to my application to sponsor my wife. I'm living in Vancouver as a PR, she's outside Canada.

I returned to Canada in November 2014 after being away since May 2014. Since then I've worked solidly and have all my pay stubs from my job. I also worked at the same place from March 2014 until May 2014, when I went away. My boss is happy to provide me with a letter of employment, stating my income, responsibilities, that he will continue to employ me etc etc.

As well as this, I also have a decent sum of money in a UK account, which I can provide a copy of.

So, can I provide all this, or should I get an Option C print out? I want to submit the application early next week, but I hear that it takes a long time to get an Option C sent (plus it's tax season!). I haven't filed my 2014 taxes yet, so it would also have to be a 2013 print out too.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks :)

Your pay stubs and bank balance, while helpful to convince CIC that you will be able to support your wife, do not make the Option C any less necessary. It is needed to prove that you haven't claimed any welfare or government financial assistance, not that you have money. I would suggest you wait the 2 weeks or whatever to get it, so as not to risk them delaying your processing later. Just my 2 cents!

I did not send an Option-C printout because I had heard some people were ok with just paystubs and a letter of assessment from Revenue Canada and that was a big mistake. They ended up requesting the document and even though I sent it right away, in the end we lost two full months on our application processing time because it went to the bottom of the pile again. (Sigh)

Bah ok, option C it is!

I guess it will have to be my 2013 Option C. I haven't done my taxes yet (not really had the chance plus I'm still waiting for a T4 from one employer). 2013 one should be ok?! :/

As far as I understand 2013 option-C printout should be ok, because technically the deadlines to do taxes for the year 2014 hasn't finished yet and, as you say, some of us have not even gotten our t4's yet.
Good Luck!

What's the difference between an Option C and a Notice of Assessment? Cause we only got the Notice of Assessment cause when I read it on the checklist I understood it as it beeing the same thing? Or am I wrong?

you can only get option c print out from calling CIC and asking for one, you will get it on the mail, it doesnt say "Option C Printout" anywhere, it should look like this...

EDIT: actually this is the correct img. :)

THAT IS NOT AN "OPTION C Printout!!" It's clearly an image of a 'notice assessment' - not the same at all

I called the CRA ( u can google the number) and i asked for "an original option C for the last 2 most recent years)

they mail it to you in about a week.

option c is NOT NOA

I have heard of people submitting a letter explaining why they could not get their option C ..... and cic accepts that sometimes but i'm not sure how that works...

its safer to just get it

Thanks for the help folks. I called CRA as soon as the clock hit 9am and requested my 2013 Option C. The lady said it should take 5-7 working days to arrive :)

I had a thought on the 2013 thing: I could attach my 2014 pay stubs too, as well as the 2013 Option C? Or just the 2013 Option C plus my UK investment account...

We're sort of in the same boat. My husband worked overseas for a couple of years. Still, we waited for the Option C printout. It did take some time but we wanted to tick everything they needed. I think they need this copy to be sure that you're not flagged for anything or you don't owe CRA anything. Just hang tight, might be worth the couple of weeks of waiting :) We did include a copy of his savings account and pay stubs. I don't think it will hurt to prove that.

I feel very confused right now if we have the right paper or not... ???

I dont even understand the way CIC have asked for it on the checklist... "An original "Option C Printout" of your and your co-signer's last Notice of Assessment for the most recent taxation year" .... What do they want?

if someone is "co-singing" it means he's helping you sponsor your relative.

otherwise only one Option C is req.
