Open Work Permit (OWP) - How to link on MyCIC and timeline - 2018

Hello everyone,
Just to state that I've linked my OWP!
I was worried the problem would be my Family Name - which is composed of 4 names - but thank God, it worked.
So, I received my AOR on the 20th and just now (23rd) I've got the linking. I've been trying every day since I've got the AOR.
As we've seen before, they said it was received on 21st but it got there on the 28th.
All links are done. Now I am just waiting...

Congrats! I think the magic number is 3. I also had to wait exactly 3 days after I got my AOR. Now it's the round 2 of the long waiting game, the actual work permit! LOL. I am expecting mine in the 1st or 2nd week of December. Yours might hit the Holidays but let's hope not

Yes, I think the same about when they'll come looking at the previous applicants' timelines.

I just realized that no one has answered the first 2 questions I asked at the beginning of this thread:

Those who already received their OWP, please answer the following questions:

• How long did it take you to get your OWP from the date you submitted your application or received your AOR?
• Was there an email notification through MyCIC when your OWP was approved? Or shall I keep checking it manually?

First, go to https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/account.html
Scroll down and click on Continue with GCKey
Sign in or Sign up and then Sign in with the Principal Applicants credentials (yours)
Click on Add (link) your application to your account
Select Category: Temporary Residence
Sub Category: Work Permit and Extension
Select: UCI and Family Name
UCI: Fill in the Principal Applicant's UCI Number (yours - should be the same 8 digit number on your Visitor's Visa)
Family Name: Fill in the Principal Applicant's last name (yours)
Select: Passport (yours) and fill in the details
Select Work Permit Type: Open (initial application or extension)
Current Country of Residence: Canada (if you are Inland applicant; otherwise, your current country of residence)
Current Marital Status: Married or Common-law
Which Situation Applies to the Applicant: Applied for PR as a spouse or common-law partner in Canada.

If you received your AOR already then you passed the round 1 of a long waiting game. Next one will be your OWP approval or Medical Request. Both of them usually take about 3 months, followed by Background Check and so on... Usually OWP comes first and then Medical Request within a week or two but I've seen some applicants got their Medical Requests first and OWP approval after 4 months or more.

Still having difficulties linking..I have a UCI and an GCKey sign in account for my visitor extension from last year. I've tried linking our PR (I'm the PA) account using our AOR App # and my UCI number...using my passport info..my family name..I've also tried using the city where I was born..nothing works. Ugh! I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong...
Question: Where it asks, "How many people are on this application?" I have myself and my 4 children who are non-accompanying..total of 5..is that what I should put in this blank? I read somewhere else where I should put 2..one for me and one for my sponsor....
This is confusing..I appreciate all of you.

We usually say 2 because most of us don't have dependents. If you have, then you should type 6 (you, your sponsor, and the 4 children).
Use only principal applicant information, be sure you are using your UCI, the UCI number in the AOR letter belongs to the sponsor.

Try the following step-by-step instruction for linking your PR application and see if you have any luck:

1. Go to https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/account.html
2. Scroll down and click on Continue with GCKey
3. Sign up and/or Sign in with your credentials
4. Click on Add (link) your application to your account
5. Select Category: Permanent Residence (not Permanent Resident Card)
6. Sub Category: Family Class (Spouses)
7. Select: Application Number and Unique Client Identifier (UCI) or Application Number and Family Name
8. Application Number: Fill in the Application Number on the AOR (starting with letter F followed by 9 digits)
9. UCI: Fill in your own UCI (not the UCI on the AOR) or your own Family Name
10. Select: Passport
11. Fill in the details (yours)
12. If you applied Inland: Select your current Province and City (not the Point of Entry); otherwise, fill in the same information you filed on your application
13. Marital Status: Common-Law or Married
14. Enter the number of family members as 2 if you have no dependents; otherwise, add 1 for each dependent of yours regardless if they are accompanying you to Canada or not (in your case like @Deh_avilla said, enter 6).

If you fail 5 times, try it again in 24 hours after reviewing and comparing your entries with your submitted application.

I've heard the OWP is good for 2 years. I'm hoping that is because (if something happens with the inland PR app) then that allows time for appeals, etc. Anyone that has their OWP, does it have the expiry date printed on it? Thank you for answering.

The OWP is valid for 2 years. When you are able to link your app you will see the status "approved" and the validity of your permit....it will be written on your hard copy too.

Just to clarify, when we apply inland we cannot appeal, this is reserved only for outland applicants. If something goes wrong and the app is denied, our best option is apply again but outland.

I believe so, unless IRCC issues a Removal Order, in this case we have to leave Canada in 30 days.
