Hi everyone ,
I was wondering if someone could help me out with a question.

I just missed the recent PNP draw for French speakers in Ontario , but hoping to be selected in the next one. the draw on May 4th targeted candidates with a point range from 458 to 467 points.
If I have more points than 467 - would that mean that I wouldn’t have been selected ?
Many thanks in advance !

Hi! Thanks for replying.
i missed it because my WES report was not ready.
I am just confused because the Ontario Website said that candidates between 458 and 467 points were targeted. Would that mean that they wouldn’t have invited candidates with more than 467 points or that there simply were none above 467 points?

I have 497 points, so just trying to figure out my chances for the next draw.

Hi,

You didn't miss anything because you were not part of it to begin with.

I believe that will hold another draw in June, so you can wait and see for youself. I read from other comments here in the forum, only those with French as their first language were part of the draw. So, candidates with those kind of points have potentially CLB 9 in French and at least CLB 6 in English.

Either way, you will find it out soon enough.

Hi there,

I am in the same situation myself (put down english as primary but am effectively bilingual) - but that seems totally illogical, because changing the primary language will make you lose a shedload of points. I would have thought that the system is clever enough to know that you're bilingual irrespective of what you put down as your primary language. Also this would mean that one has to switch back and forth to bear the best chances for all draws which does not make much sense either.

In addition to this the form states:

Which language, English or French, does XYZ choose as their primary language to be assessed for points and against program requirements?
  • If you will only submit results for one language test, choose that language.
  • If you will submit results for two language tests, choose the one with the highest CLB/NCLC scores.
This would mean that I act contrary to the form request.

@ElvisRamaj do you have any source for this statement, i.e. to put French as first language in order to stand a chance to be selected, or is this just some general assumption/rumor/forum intel?

Hi,

I don't need any source to confirm this, I just need to look the Ontario French-Speaking NOI:
https://www.ontario.ca/page/oinp-express-entry-notifications-interest

In other words, the range shows that invitations are going to those with French at a mastery level first.

Agreed, but as far as I can see, those tables just show a score range and don't show you what these people put down as their primary language, do they? They are therefore inconclusive as to what they were being assessed on. A logical system would look at the actual score of each of the test and determine the eligibility based on that rather than the selection in a drop-down.

Yes, you are right about the system.

Now, the fact is that a considerable amount of candidates in the pool have English CLB 9 and French CLB 7, which sits them at the 500+ CRS score.

Why Ontario is picking candidates in the 455 - 467 is that, they either think these candidates are good enough for our standards but possibly not good enough to be invited in a FSW draw, so lets invite them. Or, they are picking the best French to English candidates, but they may lack education or experience and such.

Hi,

I am talking about this year's selection!

That thread was started in November 2019 and got the first answer in July 2020. This year is a totally different situation.

In the thread in question an individual mentions that he got selected in June 2020 with french as second language (like myself basically). So, why, if I may ask, do you think everything has radically changed since then?
I know COVID is being blamed for everything these days, but that was around in June last year already. And even then, I fail to see if and how it would affect the selection of french speakers in the PNP...

PNP
I am one of the candidates who got invited in the FS PNP earlier this month. My score is within that range and I did put French as a second language. My IELTS score is CLB 9 and TEF score is CLB7 (scored 7/7/9/7 - it was my third try because everytime I missed 7 in only section while I got 7 or higher in others). I believe the pool itself must be smaller to have that kind of selection and the general numbers of all FS draws are low. I found the exam to be tough to crack! I am finishing my application in a couple of days - age is not on my side and I am not sure when the next general draw will be. Might as well pay and get 600 points to be assured a PR whenever the draw opens!
Any idea how much time they take to process the applications?
