Lol, if PCC and FBI letters would have suffice, then we all would have got our PR's in a matter of 3 to 4 months.

No certainly not, just having PCC and FBI clearance letters does not mean that you are Background check is clear. Its an indication from your side that your background is clear, however, CIC will perform will their own checks before they can issue PPRs.

Dear
I would think they would do this at random. If they need to do this for all applicants, it might be very time consuming process.

Yes they will complete your file within a year AFTER YOU HAVE FINISHED MEDICALS. but if the process takes more time, they dont mind asking you to do your medicals again.

Hi,

Though I have not heard of any case where they ask to redo the medicals, the CIC publication has this information.

If the processing of your application for permanent residence is delayed and we cannot reach a decision about your application before the validity of your medical examination expires, you will be required to do the medical examination again.

I guess background check involves more on "background" than "criminal record". PCC and FBI is criminal related, while background is more background related, like whether you or your family members served in military or national security agencies. If one has that kind of background, it will easily take one year or more to clear the check.

Umm, they should have the visa finalized a year from the date they received your package, 11 months to be exact, not a year from when you're done your medicals, that would be brutal

Yes I completely agree with "the". PCC and FBI are just criminal related, however background check is something deeper and different.

And thanks El.Bee for bringing up that useful authentic information. Yes, if it takes longer, you better be ready to re do the medicals again.

I think they might do a quick check first for every one based on our own declaration. If anything pops up to their interest, they will do a further check which may take a very long time.

You can count 11 months from the date your application is received if and only if your file is either transferred or if your background check is relatively simpler. Else, there's no such thing called "11 months" dear.

Good Evening everyone

I have following questions for senior members.

(1) We are planning to go to Alberta to complete our landing formalities. Does any one has an idea What document do I need to carry for that?

(2) What document Do I need to re-enter USA. I have expired H1b stamp with my previous company name on it. Am I eligible for AVR? What documents I need for AVR?

(3) My wife came on H4b visa and later she changed her status to H1b visa. Is she eligible for AVR?

(4) Does anybody have an idea Hows MS.Net / Over all IT Market in Calgary? If you provide some consulting company contact Information it would be great.

Thanks. Enjoy and all the best to all.
Cheers.

VatoCA,
These minor details differ consulate to consulate. Go with what they ask for on email/letter.
NY asked me 4 photos & that's what I supplied.
Looks like they asked you for 2 photos......
Good luck!

Thanks, Virgos. I did got that form about height and eye color. However on the same form it is asking me only 2 photo for each family member. Did they asked you 4 photos?

"3. ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE ENCLOSED TWO PICTURES FOR EVERYONE IN YOUR
FAMILY. The photographs must be unblemished as they will be used to produce your Permanent
Resident Card once you are in Canada. The requirements are as follows:
< DIMENSIONS - 35mm x 45mm (1 3/8" x 1 3/4") finished size. Show a full front view of the person's
head and shoulders showing full face centred in the middle of the photograph. Measure between 25 mm
and 30 mm (1" and 1 3/8") from chin to crown
< BACKGROUND - be clear, well-defined and taken against a plain white background without shadows
< COLOUR - photograph can be in black and white, or colour
< CONDITION - no creases or staple holes should mar the face of the person. Facial features should be
visible
< AGE OF PHOTO - 1. Within 6 months; 2. Bear the date the photo was taken (not the date the photo was
printed) directly on the back of one print (stick-on labels are not acceptable)
< PHOTO PAPER - 1. Produced from the same unretouched film or from the same file capturing the digital
image or from two identical photos exposed simultaneously by a split-image or multi-lens camera; 2. On
photographic paper that has a backing which accepts and retains the date without smearing. Photos without
this backing are not acceptable; 3. On prints that are well-fixed and washed to prevent fading and
discolouration
< IMPORTANT - must be original photo (not taken from any existing photo)"

I received my son's med req just in 2 weeks after I sibmitted all the docs they requested. that too, to India by mail. I think that was super fast (that was only for that). I cannot comment on whether it will delay the entire process yet...bcos i havent got my ppr yet.
CIC advised to do our medicals first & then do our son's after.... I had to wait bcos, i had to travel to a different city to our med (Coimbatore to Bangalore) and didnt want to travel with my new born then for 2 different times...
below is my timeline....hope this helps...

AOR/Med Req............: 28-06-2010
Doc reached CIC to
add my son & address
change (US to India)...: 03-08-2010
Med Req for my son.....: 16-08-2010
Med Done...............: 25-08-2010
Med reached Ottawa...)..: 02-09-2010
Letter from CIC (no addl doc reqd)........: 10-11-2010

Its better to be on the safe side. No harm sending them 4 photos of each family members, anyways.

hi

I appled in early june to CIC, and my son was born in mid july. I received AOR on the 6th November, and completed my medicals on the 13th november that reached Ottawa on the 2nd Dec. on 22nd november i sent in supporting documents to add my son. within two weeks they returned his original birth certificate, and up to now we have not received documents for his medical.

I am also worried that I will be delayed more since we havent completed his medicals...
