This forum has helped me a lot. As you can see from my history, I have my COPR and we are getting ready to land in Alberta. Unfortunately, we do not know anyone in Alberta. So here are a few key questions:

(1) I know we need to provide an address as soon as we land. I have found law office in Calgary that will allow me to provide their address and send me the PR cards.Do you see any problems with providing their address? Should I tell the landing officer that this is not my own Canadian address?

(2) Should I tell the officer on landing that I will be staying only a few days and then going back to the US; then in a few months coming back?

(3) Other than visas, COPR, AINP certificate what other documents do I need? Is there a form for proof of funds?

(4) Do I need to carry two lists 1. for belongings I'm carrying and 2.for belongings that will come later? Are there forms for this?

(5)Do I need to fill-up and Application for a Permanent Resident Card [IMM 5444]?

How does transfer of case to a "local" office translate to celebration? Do we expect these offices to process PR files faster? I thought they will not have the required bandwidth as they are more adept at processing visitor/temporary visas. Or are we assuming that Buffalo has given these transferred files so that the local office can just complete the visa issuance formalities for the PR files? Does any one have an insight into what is the processing speed here?

from some of the previous postings, it seems they got ppr with in 2 - 3 weeks of transfer.
and my point was atleast there is something going on..rather than no news at all...

1.-You can provide the address later, they'll give you a form to send with the address

2.- Many do that

3.- Bank statement showing all your funds

4.- Yes you do and the forms are:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/newcomers/before-border.asp

http://www.cbsa.gc.ca/publications/forms-formulaires/b4-eng.pdf

5.- I didn't do it but maybe is a new requirement, better safe so bring it with you ready

Peace

you start from Zero = nothing = nada mainly they treat you like a college kid, but some banks or car dealers if you wish of course can check your credit history in the USA, they'll not ask for that, only if you told them to do it and of course you need to have a very good one.

This helps?

Cheers

after FBI charges your credit card for $18, how long does it take to get the results back in the mail?

Thanks for the information. That helps.

My file has been transferred to Detroit. It will be one year in January since I submitted my CIC application. In order to avoid further delays, I am ordering another FBI clearance. I am in Southern Illinois. If anyone has done fingerprinting in IL or MO, please let me know. Also, please let me know how the live finger scan works? I didn't see any instructions on FBI website.

I had my fingerprinting done in down town Chicago.

Tell the man who works there (Mr. Shah), that you would like to do a live scan and have it printed out on the fingerprint card.

Thanks Chigirl, What ID do they need for fingerprinting? I have out of state ID, not sure if they accept that.

I think that will work. They just need some kind of a photo id to confirm your name, date of birth. If you have had problems with the fingerprints in the past, just make sure to take multiple copies.

Your drivers licence should be enough. It has your photo id, date of birth and social.
