Dear All,
I am an LMIA exempt temporary worker at an University (visiting researcher); I am paid by an institute in Italy, where I am a PhD student. My work permit will expire at 31 may 2017, but me and my supervising professor at the University would like to extend my stay 2 months to complete the project. I have seen that there are two ways to extend the work permit: by mail or online, and we need to fill form 5710. I am trying online, since the application time for the other option is too long compared to the expiration date of my current work permit.
I have responded to the questionnaire on your site about work permit extension, but I don't find the "LMIA exempt" option: I have to say "yes" or "no" when asked if I have LMIA; if I choose "no", the questionnaire interrupts and states that I must have it; if I choose "yes", the system expects me to have a permanent job (after completing all the question that follow), and the proof of an LMIA request; at most, I can show the receipt of my LMIA exemption, and the italian contract, as done when requesting the visa.
I would like to know how to continue; form 5710 allows to choose "LMIA exempt", but the online questionnaire system seems to not have any options to continue without declaring LMIA. Can anyone please help me?
Thank you in advance,
Best Regards,
Badrul Alam
