I am currentely in Canada and have been here for over 2 years. I would be grateful for some advice. I received a job offer for a research position for one year from a reputable university in Canada, there maybe scope for extension but for now it is for 12 months ONLY. I plan to start early winter this year.

My occupation falls within the 29 eligible occupations and I meet the required points for the SWC. I know if applicants who have a validated job offer from a Canadian employer will not be affected by the caps; but is that for permanent job offers only or can limited term contracts count as well?

But my main question is as I will fall under the Temporary Foreign Worker Category as I have 12 month job offer, if I apply within next few weeks and independently for the PR through the skilled worker category, will I still need to show POF in the form of savings etc or will my job offer suffice? If I don't need POF, can you please provide CIC evidence for this?

Thank you.

and you will find this;
Under changes to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, federal skilled worker applications are assessed for eligibility according to the criteria listed below. Note: This does not apply to applicants intending to live in the province of Quebec.

These criteria affect you only if you applied on or after July 1, 2011. If your application was received before July 1, 2011, it will be processed according to the rules that were in effect at that time.

Note: If you are applying under one of the 29 eligible occupations, as of July 1, 2011, a maximum of 10,000 Federal Skilled Worker applications will be considered for processing in the following 12 months. Within the 10,000 cap, a maximum of 500 federal skilled worker applications per eligible occupation will be considered for processing each year.

These limits do not apply to applications with an offer of arranged employment.

Is my application eligible for processing?

For your application to be eligible for processing, you must include the results of your official language proficiency test, and either:
have a valid offer of arranged employment, OR
be a skilled worker who has had one year of continuous full-time or equivalent part-time paid work experience in at least one of the following eligible occupations within the last ten years:

Thanks for that.

I followed a few of links provided within the link you kindly provided. Found this:

Depending on your circumstances, the requirements for a valid offer of employment are different.

1) If you are currently working in Canada:

- your current employer must have made an offer to give you a permanent job if you are accepted as a federal skilled worker, and
- your temporary work permit must be valid both when you apply for a permanent resident visa and when the visa is issued.

That answers the offer of employment part so it means I will have to apply independently from my employer and based on my past experience as I suspected. But my main question was regarding the proof of funding, will I still have to provide evidence or not based on my one year job offer?

Can anyone answer my last question? Thank you very much.
If you are applying INDEPENDENT of your current job offer of 1 yr then YES, you will have to show POF. The two situation are different:

APPLY FOR PR

1. With job offer - then No POF
2. Without Job offer (Independently applying) - Show POF
