I came into Canada on a student permit and got a PGWP. I got a job last year and I have 1 year work experience. I applied under CE class and got an ITA. However, I was employed as an independent contractor and my employer states this on my employment records letter. I worked at least 40 hours a week and I meet all the other requirements of my NOC. Will this work experience count towards my 1 year CE.
Also, my work permit expired on April 6, 2020. I have not renewed it because I was hoping to get a BOWP after I submit my PR application. Is there another work permit I can apply for? What options do I have? Thanks

Did you receive a T4 from your employer? If you are classified as self-employed, you won't be able to count this work experience under CEC.

Have you already applied for the BOWP and did you submit your BOWP application before your work permit expired in April?

I received a T4A from my employer. I did not submit a BOWP Application yet

If you received a T4A vs. a T4, this most likely means you are classified as self employed. If your work experience is classified as self employed, you cannot count this work experience towards CEC - however you can use it to qualify under FSW.

I assume you have stopped working since your work permit has expired?

Did you change your status to visitor before your work permit expired in April? If not, you are now out of status in Canada and need to apply to restore your status to visitor (you should do this as soon as you can).

I would also recomend that you move over to the CEC section of the forum to clarify there if you will be classified as self-employed or not (if your work experience is classified as self-employed, the CEC application will unfortunately be refused).
