Hello Everyone,

I haven't found a consensus on this anywhere, when a CoPR is issued, can the applicant use a one way ticket to come to Canada? Are the policies different for each airline? Eg. Cathay Pacific Direct to Toronto vs Air Canada also Direct to Toronto?

One way tickets are quite a bit cheaper, considering the second leg won't be used anyway, are open tickets still a thing?

Thanks!

Even if the applicant is from a non-visa exempt country?

If so that would be awesome!

Buy the one-way ticket. If the airline wants to cause trouble over it when checking in, just buy a separate, fully refundable ticket back. You can then cancel it when in Canada.

When my wife was issued her visa we travelled together from Jakarta to Ottawa on a one way ticket with 4 different airlines. We went Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur ( Lion Air) to Phuket (Air Asia) to Shanghai to Toronto ( China Eastern) to Ottawa (West Jet). Travelling on one way should be completely fine.

Oh and a tip... tickets from Kuala Lumpur are A LOT cheaper than from Jakarta. We found an almost $800 difference in price from Jakarta to Ottawa and KL to Ottawa so we bought cheap one way to KL and then bought tickets from KL to Ottawa separately using kiwi.com

Yes, she's flying out from KL to Japan. Our current plan is when she lives from SUB to just fly though KL and to go NRT. From NRT I'll fly back (transiting through the US) and for her she can take a direct flight through either Air Canada or ANA. Alternatively there is also a Cathay Pacific flight which transits through Hong Kong which would also be fine for her.

The one way prices from Japan are pretty good, way better than from CGK or SUB.
