Hello,

I was filling the application form and the checklist states that I need my birth certificate. I do not have it with me and asked my parents to send me a photo. It is in my regional language and I do not know how long it will take to get it translated to english. So my question is -

1. Do I need to send the birth certificate with the application? Because I have the passport copies and they have my DoB on there.
2. Can I send the birth certificate later after I submit the application? That will give me time to get it translated properly.

Thanks.

You can submit 10 or 12 school certificate in place of birth certificate. Also an affidavit can be submitted mentioning ur details along with DOB. If they need the birth certificate still you can always send them afterwards but lot of people have used school certificate..

Most of the Indian states now have online facility to access Birth Certificates. Try searching for the registrar's office for your state online and check if you have options to download them. Mostly they have it with the regional language + English. So translation would not be required.

I submitted mine without a birth certificate, and explained why I did not have it in my cover letter. I explained that my passport, which has my date of birth, and has been used to travel worldwide, should hopefully suffice as a proof of birth, but that if they did need me to submit my birth certificate at all costs, I would be able to procure a copy of it (hopefully) in 60 days.
They never asked me to submit a copy, and my passport copy was apparently good enough.

Thank you guys. I will send as many supporting documents as I have and mention it in the cover letter. I have my school leaving certificates that I can send. Cheers! :D
