OHIP 3 month wait period waive

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know about the 3 month wait period waiver for Ontario Health Insurance.
I know it has been waived during pandemic and I think it still is. I was wondering whether the rule will be cancelled considering the COVID measures are loosening.
I am planning to arrive in Canada in summer and we are expecting a baby due in September. If the rule is cancelled what would be the timeline? I a bit worried about this.

Nothing anyone could tell you would be more than a guess.

My own guess would be either before or after the Ontario election on June 2.

Which is a very good guess in terms of probability but not very useful, sorry

There is a good chance that the 3 month wait period will return in the next 6 months so you should not count on being able to getOHIP right away. You will need to prepare to pay for care of the 3 month of healthcare if the wait period returns.
