Does anyone know that Trudeau's resignation will affect our Citizenship processing?
This is a very good question and I’m also wondering the exact same thing my understanding from the PM’s resignation is that the parliament will also be suspended until March 24 when a new party leader and hence PM will be chosen. I know the oath of Canada citizenship is not sworn / affirmed to the PM but how possible is it for IRCC to carry on with citizenship ceremonies without a PM? Would they wait till March? Does this mean there’ll be backlogs of applications? I have a lot of questions tbh and I’m very much eager to see how things would turn out as a result of this development

Such events do create some uncertainty but I wouldn’t worry too much about it. IRCC has its own guidelines. Take an example of a response from ChatGPT on this-

The shutdown of Canada’s Parliament does not necessarily mean that immigration files will stop being processed. Immigration applications and decisions are handled by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), which operates independently of Parliament’s legislative activities.

Here’s what to expect during a parliamentary shutdown:
1. IRCC Operations Continue: IRCC staff and officers will likely continue processing immigration applications, including work permits, study permits, permanent residency, and citizenship applications. Parliamentary activities, such as debates or new legislation, do not directly impact ongoing administrative functions.
2. Policy or Legislative Changes Delayed: If any changes to immigration policy require parliamentary approval or debate, those could be delayed. For example, adjustments to immigration quotas, new programs, or reforms requiring legislation would have to wait until Parliament resumes.
3. Potential Indirect Delays: If the political uncertainty or the transition of leadership affects overall government operations or funding priorities, it could indirectly slow down administrative processes, but this is speculative.

For now, applicants can expect IRCC to continue normal operations unless specific announcements suggest otherwise. Keep an eye on official updates from the Canadian government for any changes.

Hello Everyone,

I submitted my application on October 23rd, and received the AOR on November 07. The last update on my tracker was November 09, and everything has been under progress since then. I am starting to get concerned, is this normal ?

Thank you so much

I guess you're right! Let's hope that they are back on business today, and hopefully get an update within this week. I am tired of constantly checking the tracker! Thanks for the response and all the best to all of us :)
