The wait continues.

Was this time spent in US after you applied for citizenship? Also do you live in the US?

It was for time spent in the US. In the 5 years prior to applying for citizenship, I spent 2 years in the US.
I live in Canada now.

Did they send you a separate request or asked verbally?
I kind of have a similar situation, and I never got a proper request.

We had an interview, was told verbally and was sent an email the same day requesting to submit it within 30 days.

Damn, I had an interview and was told they're gonna request a bunch of documents. And now, a month later, a complete silence. I even sent them 2 emails to the same address from where they invited me asking when are they gonna tell me exactly and in what format they need. Don't know what to do.

I was also in states and other places for almost 3 years.

I've always wondered HOW they decided whom they wanted to interview and whom not.

I think it's probably random. My friend, who never left Canada for the past 5 years, was interviewed too (in Scarborough).
Was your friend self employed?
From what I hear that is another reason for being called to interview. When the employment history is not straight forward it could lead to an interview. This is because a stable reputable job is evidence that the person was indeed in Canada, whereas when someone is self employed it is easier to faked presence in Canada.

Third reason I hear is if anything was found suspicious from the virtual test footage - person’s look not matching the photo in the ID, suspicions of cheating etc.

I personally don’t think the interview is random.

I think the interview is completely random. Prior to covid, every candidate was interviewed. They stopped the interviews during covid and are now bringing it back slowly.
Employment history has nothing to do with Citizenship, you can have a job or be a business owner, or just sit at home after winning a lottery.
