So you was not asked to have an interview or you did?

No, they ended up accepting the evidence I submitted for my travels, but it took them 5 months =/

Hello Folks,
Today my background verification from completed went back to in progress.
Now I need to do another set of fingerprints. The first one I did was in Mar 2021.
I was thinking I may get oath invite anytime soon and need for fingerprints will not be there.
The issue is I am outside Canada, can I do fingerprints for RCMP from outside Canada?

Any past experience and suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also outside. Somebody said you can use ink and scan it. Search the forum.

Someone in this form confirmed that they got it done while outside.

I'm considering reaching out to a lawyer re a writ of mandamus. Will it help? Who knows.
Yes that helps. Lawyers normally have 3 steps to approach IRCC. Each block cost 1-2k.
First they send a demand letter and the "Use of Representative" form. This normally makes IRCC move your file and do something about it
In two months if nothing specific happens on your file, you can file for the Writ of Mandamus.
If IRCC does not have a solid reason to fight, they will conclude your application before the court's date.
I recommend going forward with Mandamus. At least that makes this continuous pain to stop.

My file got updated with today's date and history reads background verification updated to in progress and this is dated 6th May.

So far formally I have not received any email or notification for fingerprints.

Is background verification refers to fingerprints request or it can be something else?

Anyone faced such update for BV other than FP request?

I think it can definitely help. But I would wait a bit until around 5-6 months after DM since that is how long they say it might take them to invite applicants. The process is very expensive (the lawyer i talked told me they charged more than $3000 for the initial steps where they follow up with IRCC and give them a couple of months to reply), so I personally would not start it unless I was already beyond the established wait time for oath. But yeah, getting a lawyer does seem to help, it is not necessary to go all the way to a Mandamus.

Best of luck!

My understanding is that FP requests are relatively random.

I have seen other applicants who see their BG checks go back to "in-progress" after having been completed for a long time. Some people think it's because some specific checks may have expired and need to be updated. It does seem to happen with some of the applications that have been waiting for a very long time =/

Don't worry about it. It happened to me as well when my Language, Prohibition and physical presence went into completed. Once that is done, in a day or two the Background verification goes back to "completed" and you can see the its a "Decision Made" in ECAS.
