As per the info provided by the BLS staff at the counter when I submitted my application, it will take 15 days to get back your original landing paper plus any other document they took for verification. After that it will take 3 to 4 weeks to get the OCI booklet. So, totally it should take about 45 to 60 days for normal applications if everything is fine. But, if they want additional info and ask to send any other documents it may take some more days.

As per the timelines posted by other applicants in this thread recently, I understand that many people get it in about 45 days (Brampton/ Toronto).

This may change for other Consulates / BLS centres.

Thanks for the info. much appreciated.. i think i am in trouble.. i have a copy of "Confirmation of Permanent Resident" and copy of my expired PR card.

Should we carry OCI booklet every time we visit India ? Would any be mentioned on the Canadian Passport in regards to OCI?

Canada doesn't bother about other citizenship / residency you have. So from that context, nothing would be mentioned in your Canadian passport.
OCI however is dependent on which citizenship you have acquired so would mention your Citizenship and passport number with your local address in Canada.

A question regarding surrender application - when you submitted on 7 Jun, was it the downloaded application(pdf) or online application?
I am asking only for the surrender application, not the oci application. It seems recently BLS has replaced the downloadable pdf link with a link to passport seva GOI site
Thanks

I applied my surrender and oci together on 14 June , already received my surrender certificate and canceled passport on 25 June .
I filled new online forms for surender passport application . Yes you have to register for passport seva. Then you can fill forms and print forms
Those new online downloadable forms in effect on 13June 2019
Actually I called bls on 13 June before send my application for oci and surrender , they told me to fill pdf forms for surrender application .
And we need to attach 1 photo on forms after printing them. . Photo size same as oci

Looks like they have changed the process (which is a welcome change). Follow the checklist and fill the online form

Hello
I only send copy of citizenship certificate for surender of passport application .
Already recirved my canceled passport without a problem
Even I send only notarized copy of copr , and citizenship certificate for OCI
So if you attach notarized copies with you documents I think should be good to go .
Thanks

Hello,

I surrendered my Indian passport today at BLS Montreal. Next I need to apply for OCI once I get my surrender certificate. However, OCI takes 2-3 months. I will be spending some time in Germany (maybe 6 months) starting this September. Is it possible that apply for OCI from Germany or do I have to do it in Canada since I have Canadian citizenship? The BLS site says I could apply from any country where I am normally a resident. I suppose I will need residence proof like a German residence permit, bank account statements etc. Another option is I could do it from India when I visit my family.

Will Germany or India work? Or will I have to apply from Canada?

Thanks in advance.

I have checked directly with Indian embassy in another country, all they need is the resident or work visa with validity of at least one year, and they can accept OCI application. So yes it is possible out of Canada but with above condition. I have also checked with FRRO delhi, and they confirmed that its easier to apply from outside, as you have to prove your residency, that is if you are resident of a foreign country and only visiting India, you can't apply from there. Even if you are able to prove it, the application will be accepted by FRRO office your state and the processing time more, he gave me estimate of 6 months.

Sorry, I was not able to check the forum for a few days and today only I read this. When I applied I had to download the PDF form from the BLS website and fill it. After reading your post I checked the BLS website now and saw the new process. This was not available at that time.

I am trying to fill PART B application but I am not able to fill it due to some error. Has anyone faced similar error before?

What should I do now? Should I start a Fresh application?
