OCI process

New passport on crossing age 20 so I need to wait for the new OCI card. Thats why im wondering if i should just get an entry visa at this point.

Even for the minor passport update online - it says still processing rather than completed but I have more hope for that one being fine.

So, one is an online update of passport number which is not a renewal. You need not worry about it. Just travel. The other one which is a physical renewal is a problem.
We have only two cases of such renewals in the tracker, one took 30 days from Ack to get processed compared 21-22 days for fresh OCI, other is waiting. If you search for similar cases in the past you will see most have taken longer than fresh OCI. I think you need to apply for entry visa.

That said, you will have to hurry for entry visa and apply by walk-in with or without appointment -- looks too late for mailing in.

Someone recently got originals back after 30+ days from application date which is like 40 days from mailing-in date. See

If applying for my spouse for OCI, our marriage certificate and the birth certificate is not from India or Canada. Does anyone know what the process is for attestation?
Or can I send it like that? Or would just a notary be okay?

What is another alternative for my spouse to be able to go to India? Can i do an entry visa for spouse if i hold an OCI card?
If yes, once spouse gets entry visa, how long do we have to entry India with that visa? We need to travel to India early next year, trying to figure this out since no more tourist visas.

(r) Marriage certificate
Please enclose a copy of Registered Marriage Certificate which has been attested by High Commission of India
or any other Indian Embassy / Consulate. The Marriage Certificate must indicate the date of marriage. There
should be two years gap between the date of marriage and date of OCI application.

Above is the requirement for marriage certificate. Same you can find on BLS site.

There are different types of entry visa with single/multiple entry starting from 6 month to year. Details again is available on BLS site.

If you do not have an appointment be aware that the lineups could be extremely long these days. Check with folks here who have done recent walk-in applications.

Finally got processed update that was expected on Friday but got delayed:
Applied: Oct 4 (Toronto walk-in)
Ack: Oct 20
Processed: Nov 13

Now let's see whether they get back to the 21 day pattern by processing Oct 23 Acks today.
