OCI process

I am not sure if this is normal process- BLS kept one original document from each application and added extra courier charges just to return those documents. I mean do they need to keep our originals for in person applications. Many of my friend never submitted any.
they keep on asking many documents which are not even mentioned. … its all submitted today.. hope i dont get additional doc request.

Which location is this Toronto ? Definitely not Brampton they did not take any originals from me for OCI only took Indian PP during Surrender Certificate app. and returned after cancellation.

They are open on Saturday as well. I went in at 8:15 AM (had an appointment) but was missing a document and came back to resubmit that document at 10:15 AM, there was no lineup at all.

FYI, I have two appointments spare. One for OCI on August 5th and the other for VISA on July 23rd.

Hi all, I just received my passport and my flight/travel to India is in october. Do you think I have enough time to surrender my passport and apply for OCI? Or should I surrender and for now apply for a tourist visa? Thanks guys

if you start right away you have enough time to surrender passport and get oci before october.

@canv_1234 First you need to apply for SC. Best thing to do is book appt at BLS Brampton. If close by.

After you received SC with cancelled PP only then you can apply for OCI you cannot do it together.

For SC it is 60 Gillingham Drive walk-in without appt. 8 AM to 1:30 PM line up starts at 6 AM processing time is about 1 week now

I would suggest you to do a mail-in delivery with Purolator after app processing as BLS is forcing applicants to do so by reducing the Pick up window to 3 PM - 4:15 PM this has resulted in line-ups to receive documents in my opinion not worth the time and effort unless you are free in the afternoons. It is about $ 37 per person for courier delivery after processing

All above timelines are for BLS Brampton not Sure about Toronto or any other location from my personal and friends exp.

Do we have to self attest the photo copy as well or it is not required, because at BLS they did not ask me to self attest they accepted the documents

No idea. There has been a push from various entities and associations to reinstate e-visas, but there has been no progress so far. Citizens of the UK are also affected by the suspension of e-visa. This is why, I applied for an OCI card. Good luck!

Right, a few of my friends want to visit India but live in US for work. Sending the passport for processing for 30+ days (tourist visa) is simply a non-starter.

If they are US citizens, the e-visa is still available to them. Its just UK and Canadian citizens that are affected.

Yeah they are Canadians. Not sure what India is gaining by cutting out tourism to the Canadians and Brits.

Submitted OCI postal application on 17th June.. BLS portal showed as "processing at consulate general" on June 23rd.. It has showed up as "in process" on the OCI portal today..

Any estimate on:
1. Time to complete
2. Time to get back originals.

Originals should be sent today/tomorrow. which jurisdiction? Toronto generally sends it back the day application is acknowledged in OCI portal
3 weeks for OCI printing from acknowledgement date. 1 more week for delivery/pickup

Yeah they are Canadians. Not sure what India is gaining by cutting out tourism to the Canadians and Brits.

If they are US citizens, the e-visa is still available to them. Its just UK and Canadian citizens that are affected.

If they were indian citizens earlier they can get entry visa (X-1) in one week. It may be easier for them (they have to deal with VFS) since they are already us residents

Not going to happen anytime soon unfortunately in my opinion
