BLS is not authorized to keep Canadian govt issued documents. However they would need to see the original passports
(iND and CAN) and other documents (Marriage/Citizenship/Utility etc) of the applicant is using to support his application
When you submit you request for courier or you can also pick up the OCI on behalf of your spouse (authorization and original payment receipt will be required)

an adult's OCI can not be picked up by someone else. these are specific instructions BLS (Brampton and Toronto) wants you to acknowledge when you opt for counter pick up.

Can someone please confirm if she comes to Canada to for a day or two to apply for in person? Will they take her Canadian passport for verification and she has to wait to travel again or once applies in person she can travel back to India and then they will courier the OCI to my address?

if she's physically and otherwise able to be here - you can opt for premium service ($100), just to be sure everything goes off smoothly and also quicker appointments available (this service can even be asked for at the door! i have personally seen security guards escorting such folks to the lounge, and giving them priority token nos. you can avail courier dly which is anyway included in the premium charges. BLS won't keep any original document with them; she can travel back if she has an India e-visa (24h time to get one, max max).

i have (i tried), at both locations, they even gave me this notice to sign (@abbas.pasha how to share a photo here?).

Collected SC and OCI from BLS Brampton.
Collected these for self and the minors, My wife was with me at collecting her.

then i think the rules would've changed (i guess it has been a year since you took yours). i have the notice in my hand that i was asked to sign - that says no authorizations allowed, applicant to visit (except minors).

Then it might likely be a change in the process. But since you are going to go to your beloved BLS for one of your application, maybe have the gufhtugu with them

Mississauga Walk-in OCI application submitted on 13th March 2024 for Minor, got update today.

Same was written at Ottawa BLS but they gave the spouse OCI with authorization letter and original receipt. I guess third party is not allowed but family works.

not sure how long ago was that as they keep changing processes without notice. i was categorically told not even a family member. anyways, if someone wants to test their luck/BLS processes, they can.

I called BLS and they are asking me to send an Original Canadian Passport and Birth certificate along with copy and the also want me to take a courier service to get those original docs back. Seems scam to me, but they are the Boss

Why don't you do in-person submission? Ottawa BLS is not that crowded and you can manage without an appointment too if you go early in the morning.

I live very far from Ottawa.

Still looking for an answer though.
