So much for my case being an urgent one. This past week I got to talk to my MP's office who had enquired with the CIC on my behalf. They'd told them that 'an officer has not reviewed my file/RQ a year after the citizenship test.'

Does any one know (or perhaps can any one guess) what it is that has kept a lousy, lazy and useless CIC employee from reviewing and finalizing a simple citizenship file at St. Clair? Do these clowns/people even work? If so, at what speed? Been 13 months and some change since I successfully passed my citizenship test. What the f.ck is going on?

Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) Online Request, *** https://atip-aiprp.apps.gc.ca/atip/welcome.do

The government under "Access to Information" allow access to officials, public, private individuals about progress of their applications, files and cases with various government agencies.

In this context, the Citizenship grant applicants can request details about progress of their applications with CIC. It takes 30 days to be processed & emailed or CD mailed, depending upon how you asked it to be sent. There is no restriction on number of times you request this report.

Likewise you can request your travel history record from CBSA or Health records from concerned department.

The Online ATIP form requires personal details, citizenship client ID or PR number, language (English or French), how do you want it as an Email or CD to be mailed. Under options, select "Privacy Act" which is Free as for other option the fee is CAN $5.

Hope the above may help you.
Thank for clarification... ;D ;D ;D ;D

For me at has been more than 19 after the test and still now answer. You are past your 36 months mark so I suggest going for Mandamus if you can afford it....

Indeed its ridiculous to make applicants wait for years without any progress. Yes, if you can afford file a mandamus go for it. Wiish there could have been some provision for all such aggrieved candidates to file "Class Action" suit against the CIC for the mental torture.

Alternatively, candidates who filed mandamus should able to recover the expenses from CIC, as its due to lack of action beyond reasonable time frame forced the candidates to go for Mandamus.

I hear you. But citizenship shouldn't be for sale. Spending $7K on Mandamus is only going to enrich some fat lawyer's pocket.

That is a great idea: Pulling legal and other expenses incurred by the applicants whose mandamus application was approved straight from CIC's budget. I assure you that if such a rule came in place , CIC would have given top priority to 2011-2013 applicants and not to 2014-2015 applicants as they do now. However I don't see this actually happening. Kudos to the great idea though !

I just spoke with a front desk clerk at an immigration law firm. They certainly are willing to do anything for my money. I will see what can be done. Maybe I will spend 3-4K to do this.

Good luck and God speed. I can't do it since I am not 36 months yet. I suggest trying to collect a group of people from this forum who are waiting more than 36 months (e.g. janoo, djoli, isabella). Perhaps you could negotiate a better price.

I have asked people on this forum to join me for a protest in front of St. Clair. Nobody cared to respond. Doubt they'd want to join me on that one either.

I value your suggestion but personally felt its ineffective, as neither the government nor MP's gives any importance to such protests.

On the contrary, you may be falsely implicated in some criminal cases and may be even deported. As we know this government is bent down upon imposing itself on everything somehow or other.

Despite causing so much suffering to thousands of applicants for years, it just raising the fees atrociously but not doing enough to alleviate the problem, do you think it will be affected by the protest. As long the Citizens (who votes) does something, it will not matter to them. In our cases, it does not bother citizens and so MP's will not be concerned except some lip service. Hope you understand my point of view.

May be if applicants file a Class Action against the CIC, it may have some impact. Not sure if Class Action suit is applicable on CIC.

I personally would not pay more than 1,500 $ to speed up the processing. Maybe if you gather a bunch of people who are already considering to apply for mandamus (e.g. janoo) and you all go to a lawyer together, you might negotiate the price down to 1,500$. As a group you always have a better bargaining power.

I am not sure if protest will help. At best, the CIC employees will giggle when they see you as they are entering their office. However applying to mandamus might be helpful as CIC has to allocate its legal resources , which can be quite expensive, to respond to your mandamus. At that point, since they run a business like any other, they will be willing to expedite your processing to save the money they would need to allocate for the litigation. Hope this makes sense.

If your protest is pacific nobody will deport you. This is Canada, not Egypt nor Irak. However, I agree that a class action is more powerfull than 10 guys protesting.

Do you mean peaceful demonstration ?. I believe most of the demonstrations have intent and starts peacefully.Even 2010 G-20 Toronto summit protests were peaceful initially but then some elements infiltrated it, caused such violence and the organizers still facing major criminal charges.

Yes, we few protestors can hardly make any dent on CIC's pace of processing. Besides nobody wants to risk any problems with authorities. Perhaps, the Class Action seems more viable approach but again legal experts can tell how practical it is and if that's applicable.
