Re: Interview Call from LVO in Abu Dhabi.........

Since this forum has become completely stagnant and i thought with some of the 2015 applicants lined up for their interviews throughout this week, may be it would be a good idea for me to share my own interview experience:

My interview was held at CHC Abu Dhabi on 22nd March 2015. I reached the embassy building well in advance so i just roamed through Abu Dhabi Mall (CHC is located on 9th and 10th Floor of West Tower of Abu Dhabi Mall). That helped me a lot in easing my nerves before the big occasion. After going through customary security checks, i started waiting for my name to be called. Finally, the slide of a window in front of me was raised by a young man who announced my name and told to me proceed to interview room. Then and there, i realized now is the time to make the impact. I entered the room and settled down. The visa officer arrived after a while and greeted me and asked me how i was doing and how was my trip to Abu Dhabi.

The Visa officer introduced himself and told me that he is responsible for the processing of my application and that he has the authority to determine my eligibility to be awarded PR to Canada. To begin with, he asked for my passport and inquired about my previous travel history. Then he asked about my work experience documents, i passed it on to him, he looked at it and asked me quite a few question related to my job like what i do in this role, how i found this job, why did i switch over to this job from my previous employer etc. Then he also asked about my family members and inquired about my parents and if they will reunite with me in Canada in the future. Afterwards, he asked for me to show him updated Proof of Funds as well as PCC which i did. He also looked at some of my Education Certificates. In the end, he took all my forms i.e. Schedule A, Supplementary Travel Information and Additional Family Information and said that these will be enclosed in my Case file.

Bear in mind that the Visa officer continued to type something on the system every time he looked at my documents. Finally, the moment arrived when he said "i am satisfied with your eligibility and accepting your application for further processing". He informed me about MR being the next step. He also provided me with valuable advice regarding my settlement issues in Canada and gave me fruitful tips to integrate into the Canadian Society.

So as per my experience, following are the points to be considered to have a successful interview:

1- Be prepared for every single word of your immigration file and expect to be asked about anything from anywhere in your application.
2- You must remember that you are the one who provided all the information in your case file and therefore, its you who should have complete command.
3- Remain calm and composed, keep a smile and always look into the eyes of the Visa officer, remember confidence speaks for itself.
4- Make sure you understand the VO's question, if you are in doubt, you are well within your rights for the question to be repeated.
5- Speak at a medium pace and as clearly as possible.
6- I did not wear any Jacket or Coat so i would recommend you to do the same because remember, physically relaxed body will eventually lead to a peaceful mind (which is exactly what you need for a successful interview)
7- This is an "Interview", not some "Interrogation" so treat it as such.
8- Generally, Visa officers are quite friendly and they make you feel completely at ease. My experience was no different. So you also need to reciprocate the same attitude.
9- Last but not least, have faith in Almighty ALLAH, pray with a firm belief deep down your heart that In Sha ALLAH you will walk out of the Embassy building with a huge smile on your face.

Members who are scheduled to be interviewed on 23rd, 24th, 25th and 26th March and humbly requested to follow my suit and share their valuable experience as it will help all those who might be interviewed later this year or sometime in the future.

Sorry for such a lengthy post but believe me, i have summarized it as much as possible.

All the best and remember me in your prayers.

Hi!

I just had my interview today 23 March and it all went well.It took only around 30 minutes. The VO explained to me the reason why I was interviewed. He asked about my recent travels and looked at the documents related to my present job. He never asked about what I do.In fact his questions were mostly answerable by only Yes or No.He asked anyhow about the company I am working with. Then he said, "there is no point of asking alot of questions because I am already accepting your application". Later he asked why I applied for Canada. He took my PCC but just noted it on the computer and returned it back to me.He did not took any documents from me. He said that MR will come in a couple of weeks.

I expected too many unnecessary things with regard to the interview but in reality it was just really plain and simple.

If you plan to settle in Alberta Province, I believe this information will be good for you.

The Alberta Government released its 2015 Budget

The major highlights include:

Revenue change details
The following is a detailed listing of all revenue and taxation changes in Budget 2015.
Health Care Contribution Levy
• Albertans with taxable income over $50,000 will begin to pay the new Health Care Contribution Levy (HCCL) on July 1, 2015. Individuals with taxable income below $50,000 a year will not be subject to the HCCL.
• The new levy is capped at $1,000 annually, which is reached at $130,800 in taxable income.
• It is estimated that the HCCL will impact about 1.1 million Albertans.
• The new Health Care Contribution Levy is expected to raise $396 million in 2015-16. This amount will rise to about $530 million in 2016-17, the first full fiscal year for which the change will be effective.
Health Care Contribution Levy chart – Fiscal Plan page 87

Personal Income Tax
• Budget 2015 introduces two new tax brackets starting January 1, 2016.
• Taxable income over $100,000 will be subject to a provincial income tax rate of 11.5 per cent once fully implemented over three years. It is expected that this change will impact about 330,000 Albertans, representing 11 per cent of provincial tax filers.
• Taxable income over $250,000 will be subject to a tax rate of 12 per cent once fully implemented. This rate will be reduced to 11.5 per cent after three years to match that of earners over $100,000.
• The additional 0.5 per cent rate is intended to raise additional revenue until the budget is balanced and is estimated to impact about 44,000 of Alberta's highest income earners, about 1.5 per cent of tax filers.
• Taxable income below $100,000 will continue to be taxed at 10 per cent, as has been the case since 2001. The last time that personal income taxes increased in Alberta was in 1987.
• These new tax brackets are expected to generate an additional $330 million in 2016-17, rising to about $730 million in 2018-19.
Changes to Alberta's Personal Income Tax Structure – Fiscal Plan page 88
Alberta Family Employment Tax Credit
• Alberta's tax system provides direct financial support to about 137,000 lower and middle income families through the Alberta Family Employment Tax Credit (AFETC).
• The program is structured as a refundable tax credit, so families benefit from the program regardless of whether they pay any provincial income tax.
• Starting July 1, 2016, the AFETC will be enhanced further. The rate at which benefits are phased in will be increased from eight per cent to 11 per cent on working incomes over $2,760. The phase-out threshold will be increased from $36,778 to $41,250, allowing families to earn more before these benefits begin to phase out.
• The enhancements take effect on July 1, 2016, and it is estimated they will provide about $25 million in additional support for lower and middle income families.

New Alberta Working Family Supplement
• To further support Alberta's working families, Budget 2015 introduces a new refundable tax credit – the Alberta Working Family Supplement (AWFS). Starting July 1, 2016, this new program will apply to working families earning between $2,760 and $41,220.
• Like the AFETC, the new AWFS will be indexed to inflation each year (starting in 2017) and administered on Alberta's behalf by the Canada Revenue Agency. Families currently eligible for the AFETC will automatically be enrolled in the new AWFS.
• In total, it is estimated that the AWFS will provide an additional $85 million of support to approximately 75,000 working families. This program, as well as the enhancement of the AFETC, supports the forthcoming Alberta Poverty Reduction Action Plan.
AFETC and AWFS Program Parameters – Fiscal Plan page 89
Fuel Tax
• The fuel tax applicable to gasoline and diesel will be raised by four cents, to 13 cents per litre.
• The last time tax on gasoline and diesel increased in Alberta was in 1991.
• The Tax Exempt Fuel User and Alberta Farm Fuel Benefit programs provide tax exemptions for fuel used for qualifying purposes. Eligible users will continue to receive the same benefit of nine cents per litre on the purchase of marked fuel, but the government is not increasing the benefits provided under these programs.
• These tax rate changes are expected to raise an additional $530 million in 2015-16 and are effective at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, March 27.

Tobacco Tax
• The tax per carton of 200 cigarettes will increase by $5 to $45 and the tax on loose tobacco will rise by 3.75 cents per gram to 33.75 cents per gram. These changes maintain Alberta's policy of taxing cigarettes and loose tobacco at parity.
• The last time that tobacco tax in Alberta increased was in 2009.
• The levy on cigars will also be increased. The tax rate applied to a cigar's taxable price will rise from 103 per cent to 116 per cent. The minimum and maximum tax per cigar will also rise from 20 cents to 22.5 cents, and from $6.27 to $7.05, respectively.
• These increases, which align with Creating Tobacco-free Futures: Alberta's Strategy to Prevent and Reduce Tobacco Use, are estimated to generate an additional $90 million annually.

Charitable Donations Tax Credit
• The Alberta government supports contributions to registered charities by providing a Charitable Donations Tax Credit (CDTC).
• In 2007, the CDTC was enhanced to 21 per cent from 12.75 per cent on total donations over $200 to encourage higher donation levels. The enhancement was not as effective as anticipated.
• Given the ineffectiveness of the credit enhancements and the current fiscal environment, the CDTC rate applied to total donations over $200 will be returned to 12.75 per cent for 2016 – the rate in effect prior to 2007.
• Returning the charitable credit to 12.75 per cent for the 2016 tax year is estimated to save the government $90 million annually.

Insurance Premiums Tax
• The Insurance Premiums Tax is imposed on premiums receivable by an insurer. This tax has remained unchanged for more than 25 years.
• On April 1, 2016, these tax rates will increase by one percentage point to three per cent on premiums for life, accident and sickness insurance, and four per cent for other insurance.
• This measure will generate an additional $165 million in 2016-17.

Education Property Tax
• Beginning in 2016-17, the Education Property Tax requisition will be determined on an annual basis, as was done prior to 2013-14.
• Since the government assumed responsibility for education property tax in 1994, the province's share of total property tax revenue collected in Alberta has fallen from 51 per cent to 26 per cent.
• For more information on this change to Education Property Tax, please visitAlberta Municipal Affairs

ESP = Pension scheme doesn't appear to be recognised by AVO at the POF update stage . It is NOTone of the options AVO gives when asking for POF. Someone claimed to have used it before but my advise is that you plan your POF without factoring in your pension.

Now, with regards to cooperative, it should be allowed if the funding source is shown in your bank statement. You need to be sure your debit from your bank statement tallies with your credit in the cooperative account. ....if not. I've seen two people present it, one was accepted., the other wasn't.

SHORT STAY ACCOMMODATION:
For sure you must arrange a 'short-stay' accommodation prior to your landing. The necessity of which cannot be overemphasized more. If you have friends/relatives, they can be approached for the same, if you do not have anyone, the following is recommended:

Toronto:
1) http://www.safehomestay.com/
2) http://www.staystudio6.com/
*Both provide a/port pick-up services. The places are used by many satisfactorily.

Calgary:
Not much such places are available. However, this ad by a service-provider caught my eye...
"Furnished rooms with high speed internet are available for newcomers & immigrants. Close to all aminities. Pick up & drop off services also available. Call Girish # 403-255-8582 [or email: taradale @ live.ca] for more info".

Vancouver:
a) http://www.budgetpathotel.bc.ca/
b) http://www.ywcahotel.com/

Some other important sites on Vancouver are:
1) http://www.welcomebc.ca
2) http://www.rentbc.com

NOTE: Except for ppl with enough $$$ to spend, avoid Hotels & Motels. They are far costlier. Also, if you must take a hotel, avoid the ones close to the A/port -for obvious reasons.

HOUSE RENTAL:
The best way to do house hunting [long-term accom.] is to land at Canada & then start searching. Word of mouth & Bulletin Boards are a great ‘real-time' source. However, we cannot condone the importance of the web. Some of the good sites [there are many] could be:
a) http://www.hometrader.ca (Good site)
b) http://www.capreit.com (Property Management Services)
c) http://www.kjiji.ca/ (Good Classifieds site)
d) http://www.mls.ca (Mother of all)
