I wouldn't say it's bad, just an extra step.
I just meant "bad" as in your application will take longer since it didn't just sail through criminality. I didn't mean it will result in adverse actions. Apologies.

And here I was feeling sorry for myself cause others with later AOR dates were getting test invites. Thanks for putting things into perspective for me. I'd rather wait a bit than add an extra step in the process.

My wife's took a bit longer than mine (separate applications) to get the test invite, but her BG cleared well before the test invite.

On the other hand, I got a test invite pretty early, but then weeks later got a fingerprint request.

Any Idea how fast is Vancouver office in processing applications? A friend of mine got his test invite from Montreal office, And two days later after passing the test, he received a fingerprint request from Vancouver office.

Why some people get fingerprints requests and others don’t?
Did anyone receive the fingerprints request, provided the fingerprints and got their background checked cleared already?

First step in background check is to run name and date of birth. If your name or other details are close to someone that has a criminal record or something like that, RCMP will request fingerprints because that is the only way to 100%make sure you either are or aren't the person with the records.

Those whose intial check using name and date of birth come back with no hits don't require fingerprints to clear them.

Hope this explanation helps.

What do you mean by “hits”? I’ve never even gotten a parking ticket. Why would there be a “hit” when they check my data?

This may be a reason, but it’s not the reason. I definitely would not match the name of anybody else.

It’s just random. I got a FPR and my wife did not. Same places we’ve lived for 15+ years. Same addresses. Her name is way more common than mine.

I asked cause I found somewhere online that they normally explain in the fingerprint request why they request it
Every letter mentions the same 2 sections of the act.

The primary reason for FP is as noted by @moman21. Additionally, IRCC may conduct fingerprinting as part of its quality assurance procedures, which involve asking for FP for a predetermined number of applications.
