Non-official support document translations

Hi All,

In regards to supporting documents, such as credit cards bills (Although I have an official letter from my bank IN ENGLISH that confirms we have a joint bank account) to show we shop for groceries together and phone bills and phone records to show we call each other (even though we have provided proof we have been living together for a number of years), do these documents need to be translated by a certified translator? I translated these documents myself and I am just wondering if, in your expert opinions, would it be okay?


All the official documents, and documents that the guide and checklist have asked for are certified translations. I am referring to extra documentation, the stuff that they don't really ask for, but we include because we think it will help.




Other than that, I am happy to say that I have paid the fee for the application and will send it out tomorrow (hopefully)!!!

Hi

Given that you have been living together for several years and (I assume) have shown proof of that, I wouldn't even bother including those proofs, especially the phone records. CIC doesn't care about communication records for people who live together.

If you decide to include them, your own translations are fine.

For non-official extra proof, your own translations should be OK. Technically, CIC still wants official translations, but at the same time many people on this forum have submitted unofficial translations and have been fine. Especially when you have a lot of other, better, evidence (such as your proof that you live together), you should be able to use your own translations.
