Hello @Miss bee .. I hope you are well and can answer my query on what is the best thing to do.
I submitted my NON-express entry pr application last November 2024 and currently waiting for AOR. I am expecting it within this month.
I have an active Express Entry profile and yesterday, I received an invitation to apply under the CEC-Education category.
I am now confused whether to accept this EE invitation OR just wait and continue with my NON-express entry application?
Also, does express entry and non-express differ only in AOR time arrival?
What could be the best thing to do? My PGWP will expire in October 2026.
Thank you in advance.
Non-Express Entry PR application: Submitted in November 2024, AOR still pending.
- Express Entry (EE) profile: You received an ITA under the CEC-Education category recently.
- PGWP expires in October 2026: So you still have about 1.5 years of legal status .
Option 1: Accept the Express Entry Invitation
- Pros:
- Much faster processing time (CEC files often processed in under 6–8 months).
- You will receive AOR immediately upon submitting the application.
- You can apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) when you’re within 4 months of PGWP expiry (June 2026), and you’ll have AOR by then.
- Cons:
- You will likely need to withdraw your Non-EE application once EE PR is approved to avoid duplicate processing.
- Pros:
- Simpler if you’ve already invested time and effort into this stream.
- Cons:
- Slower process.
- No AOR yet — if delays continue, it may drag on significantly.
- No significant benefit over EE unless your non-EE category gives you some advantage (e.g., more stable processing for specific PNP streams).
Given your strong position (CEC-eligible, PGWP valid until October 2026), I recommend accepting the Express Entry (CEC-Education category) invitation and submitting a new EE PR application.
Once you receive your EE AOR, you can let both applications run in parallel for a while. Later, if your EE application progresses well (e.g., medicals passed, background in progress), you can choose to withdraw the Non-Express Entry application to avoid duplication.
