How flexible are the NOC Codes when you pick one for jobs you've had? For example, what if your job title matches the title of one of the codes, but none of the responsibilities? Or vice versa - your job matches the responsibilities, but not the title? Also, how many of the responsibilities under a certain code should your jobs match?

Thanks! :)

My guess is they care mostly about the responsibilites of your job, much less on the job title.

In my hometown, even an entry-level teller, who mostly do meet-and-greet at the bank has the title "Financial Manager". :D

Also, there could be applicants from non-English speaking/non-official countries, which the translation of the job title itself may not clearly reflect an applicant's responbility at work.

A lot of the job descriptions under specific NOC codes overlap with others - so I guess there's some leeway when choosing?

What industry is it?

From what you said it could be, anywhere from skill level B to skill level C.

P.S. Since you are from the States (at least that's what your account name suggest) , what's your job title?

Well my title now is Administrative Assistant. This job was a few years back. But the official title was Data Entry Clerk/Account Representative. But as you can see from the job description, those titles don't encompass everything I actually did. Which is why I posted my initial question - is the description or the title more important when choosing a NOC code haha.

And yeah, I'm an American citizen.

You only need to select ONE NOC that best suit and, of course choose the one that you work the longest within the last 5 years.

But you need three years of combined Skilled work experience, correct? Which is why I'm trying to choose this NOC code pretty carefully.

Hi all

I have a doubt regarding my NOC

I have filled in NOC 4011 while making my Express entry profile. But the duties in NOC 4011 and 4021 are so similar that i m getting confused. I am working in a college of University of Delhi. I am in the field of teacher education. My qualifications are: M.A, M.Ed, Phd. I have completed my PHD in 2015.
Although noc 4011 mentions Assistant Professor, yet, is it mandatory that one is working in university. I am an Assistant professor but in a college.
I have got ITA and filled the same info in pr application. got my document checklist also. Can i change my NOC at this stage.

And does it need to be three years in that ONE NOC code? Can't mix and match NOC codes?

1. 3 years of experience (within the last 10 years) gives you the chance of getting the highest score on Skills Transferability - you can mix and match multiple NOC 0/A/B.

2. For FSW eligibility points, you get maximum points (15) for 6+ years of work experience acquired in the same NOC 0/A/B within the last 10 years.

3. Job titles do not matter. Job responsibilities do. Choose the NOC whose main duties match closely with your job responsibilities.

4. Keep all of these in mind when you decide on the NOC. Choose as Primary that NOC in which you've had the most experience in the last 10 years.

All the best!

Wait 6+ years for Elligibility points?! Is that just to get an ITA? Because I received an ITA with 3 years.

That's a separate grid altogether. That is used to determine program eligibility. You get 9/11/13/15 points for 1/2-3/4-5/6+ years of foreign work experience acquired in the same NOC 0/A/B within the last 10 years. These points add towards your overall FSW score and you need at least 67/100 to be eligible.
