Which one is this BLUE BOOK? :o :o ??? ???

...and is this really talking abt NPTE or PCE?

Hi,

The blue book refers to the Therapy-Ed O'Sullivan book. I had provided the link in my earlier post. It used to be blue hence the name blue book. The current edition is white and green. At the moment, there is no specific book for the Canadian PCE. Most people use the US NPTE prep text books and they do just fine. Note however that there is a slight difference in the presentations of the two exams. The Canadian written exams use vignette (case scenario) format: A given case scenario usually applies to about 4-5 consecutive questions. However the psychometric properties and the skills required for taking both exams are similar hence a good preparation with the NPTE books (Therapy-ED & Score Builders) should suffice for the written part of the PCE. I personally find the score builders a lot more user friendly and easy to read. The visual representations and simplistic nature of the presentations make it easier to retain and recall valuable facts. This may be because this suits my learning style; others may differ.

Fatex: Thanks. I'll still find time to drop in every now and then.

@yejydo. Great!! I could see I am not the only guy heading BC. Most naija prefer to land in calgary(Alberta). I got flair for BC bc of the weather and BC has got some great minds I would like to meet.
I am not sure if one would be able to work as physio assistant in BC while awaiting finalization of credentialling.I got the hint this is possible in Alberta.
@fatex. I am not sure if I got your PM.I wouldnt have ignored it.Where do you intend landing? Are u through with your credentialing?
@9j .pls could you react to my last statement in my post to yejydo.

"Why the preference of many naija PTs for Alberta?" - Well, I can't speak for everybody, but I suspect the relative low cost of living and low tax rate (lowest in Canada) and the boom with oil and natural gas industry within the region might have to do with it.

Working as a PTA - You can work as a PTA in any of the Canadian provinces while your credentialing is ongoing. However, availability of jobs may vary from province to province and between different locations within the same province. PTA is not yet regulated in Canada as they are in the US, so a foreign trained PT stands a chance of getting PTA job. I'll however advice that you do preliminary online search for your proposed location to see job availability prior to landing. You may also want to note that practice patterns and settings in Canada tend to be different from what most of us are used to back in our home countries so your search should take you beyond the traditional physio clinics and hospitals. Long term care/rehab centers, skilled nursing/retirement homes may provide ideal locations for PTA jobs.

BC is a very nice province. Vancouver is awesome if you like city life, but it comes at a price of high cost of living. Also BC has one of the highest tax rate in Canada. You may also have an added advantage in choosing BC as they are the only province that will offer you a temporary PT licence while you are waiting to sit the 1st stage of the PCE. So you may not have to worry about a PTA job after all. However, the temporary licence comes with a caveat. You must show evidence that you have registered for the next available PCE and you will need a licensed PT to sponsor you as an employer and a mentor/supervisor for the duration of the licence. You will also need to obtain your own independent practice indemnity insurance. See details here: http://www.cptbc.org/interimregistrationapplication.asp

Hope this helps.

hello everybody
i think you will be asked to complete a course on evidence practice and autonomous practice aside from the mandatory context of PT practice in canada if you a nigeria trained especially from OAU.
ALSO,i think healthmatch BC will be of no help if you have not completed ur exams both written/clinical and have applied for full/Proffessional licence.
