what u mean? have u not completed ur post graduation/graduation? if not very difficult to the score 67/100.

I'm a 4th PhD student. I already have my Msc in Ecology, Biology and Evolution. I already took the test, and I do get a higher score than 67. I just want to make sure that I'm not taking a risk by applying since I haven't graduated yet.

As long as I manage to convince the immigration officers that what I do is equivalent to being a biologist, I should be fine.

I was wondering if any of you were in this situation.

I got my Msc from France, I haven't worked a "job" full time afterwards, I got directly into a PhD program which I'm still conducting now. So technically, I haven't graduated from the PhD, and I still want to apply for PR in Canada, without having to wait to get my PhD.

Hello ASG,

Wildlife biology rocks! :)

When I lodged my PR application last year I was also wondering whether PhD research counts as work experience.
I had done some temporary work during my MSc studies, and then 1 year of PhD research (full time, on a scholarship, in wildlife biology). In my PR application I outlined my PhD research as my main component for work experience. So far it has all gone well, and I have just sent in my medical results.

How the job prospects for wildlife biologists in Canada (in particular in regards to employment in NGOs and government)? And are there any other wildlife biologists or ecologists in this forum?

All the best,

can u all all mention the avarage timeline of processing noc 2121? shijoal

Hello UP123,
what you say make me feel much, much better. From what I gathered here, it's really on a case by case basis and how well I convince the officer that full time PhD is equal to work experience.

As for the job prospects, well, it seems that environment is the hardest field to get in these days, even for Canadians. I know of positions in the government that have about 500 applicants...However, I still want to try, simply because, as you said, wildlife biology rocks.
I'll take my chances and hopefully land a job out West after I graduate. I think that the best option is to know people in the field. Networking always helps.

Hi, I wondering if there is anyone here in my field; Aquaculture. I am also in the final stages of my Phd programme, and currently a research officer, in an African regional aquaculture centre.

Hi all,

I am also in the same category as you all are.

agriculture or biologist related really wonderfull scope in ca................... we will surely have a big leap in that sector.////////////////// shijoal

Dear all,

I am new to this forum. I am so glad to know everyone here under NOC2121.

May I ask some questions my application as federal skilled worker? Thanks.

I received my ph.D in US in Jan 2011. During the 6.5 years of my PhD, I worked as research assistant full time with regular regular stipend. And since Jan 2011, I have been working as postdoc in US. I am going to Toronto for my new postdoc position there.

So does the6.5 years of research assistant experience during my PhD count as working experience of Biologists (NOC2121)? If not, how about my postdoc experience? Can I add my US postdoc experience with future Canadian postdoc experience to make it one year? Does it have to be with only one employer? I need to decide whether to start my Canadian postdoc position in December 2011 as planed or postpone it to Jan 2012 in order to accumulate one year of continuous working experience. Your information on this is highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot in advance!
