No scanning of passport and pr card at land border

Hi,

I entered Canada via Michigan - Ontario land border. The canadian border officer did not scan my passport or PR card. He just said 'you are all set'. I do see my record of exit from the US in my online I94 record. Is it normal? May be they are recording entry/exit via license plate, not sure though. However, I am worried that when I am applying for my PR card renewal or citizenship my entry-exit records may show up incorrectly and I may lose number of days spent in Canada. Anyone with such an experience?

Yes, because passports contain an RFID Chip, which allows the passport to be scanned automatically without the officer having to do anything. Even before your car pulls up to the officer at a land POE, the passport has likely already been scanned and the information is on his/her/their screen. They also use license plate readers, so if you were driving your own car that is automated as well.

Yes, because passports contain an RFID Chip, which allows the passport to be scanned automatically without the officer having to do anything. I have an Indian Passport but it doesn't have any chip. License plate reader does make sense. I was driving my own car.

I think the PR cards have an RFID chip.

But if you are really concerned: the next time you cross the border, you could ask the CBSA officer if it's somehow recorded. (You can briefly explain that you want dates to be right because you are eager to get citizenship)

Yeah PR cards have RFID. In general, if the exit from the US shows up correctly in online I94 does that mean CBSA will have that record as well?
