Hello,
I send in my application spousal sponsorship application on August 2018 and I have yet to receive a response from CIC. I've called them many times and they say that they have received the application but keep telling me to wait. The other people who have submitted their application on August 2018 have already submitted their medical and are just waiting for response. I feel like I am stuck on step 1 while everyone is on their step 5 and waiting for their response.

What can I do?

Have you had any other additional requests like medical or have you had SA?

Something is wrong then. Is the call center not able to provide a temp file number? If it's been 5 months and you've heard absolutely nothing I would consider contacting your MP.

I called this morning since I also still don't have news for my application which was sent in october.
The agent told me to wait for the AOR to get my file number and (here comes the lie) there is no such a thing as a temporary file number.
The sydney office is still treating applications received before the 9th October. Yet december applicants are getting their AORs at the moment from the mississauga office.
This is not fair in so many levels.

Unfortunate but true- the responses across agents vary so much!

I am an early Sept 2018 applicant and haven't received AOR either- was told by an agent the AOR doesn't really make a difference, as long as they are working on your file- which she says seemed to be the case according to the info she had on the system (she refused to share the specifics!). She was surprised though and did also mention that they aren't really sure how the Sydney office is dealing with files, it's a new office and they are probably processing files in whatever sequence they feel convenient and simple, and that in fact the order of steps may not be the same for each file- they can choose to do the background check right at the beginning.........

I'd say just share your story with the MP, and see if you can convince them to approach CIC for more info- why wait for it to hit the 12 month mark. Regardless of what their official processing timelines are, the applicant at the very least has the right to know the status of their application- it makes no sense for them to provide no insight or transparency on a select few files. Sheer nonsense!

The call center agents give out misinformation all the time. As I always say, take what you hear with a grain of salt.

You are definitely not alone! My application was submitted at the end of July, received AOR mid November and just recently received an email saying my application was sent to Mexico. I'm at the 7 month mark and have not received any sort of notice of background checks or medical requests.

I have the same exact timeline as you. My application was submitted end of June, received AOR mid September and Sponsorship Approval mid Oct but haven’t heard or received any more information or medical request and it is making me really anxious. Let me know if you receive any notice. Good luck!

I definitely will! Did you submit your police certificate at the beginning as well?

It IS very unfair, but quite common and there is probably not much you can do, but to wait.. sorry.

You can however keep calling, contact your MP for help or order the GCMS notes. That will give you some info and hopefully reduce stress.

Good luck!

Yes, I did submit them at the beginning! Thank you. I will let you know as well if I get any notice.

Hey Belinda H.

Just wanted to let you know that my status on ECAS has been updated on February 6 as started processing! Have you seen any updates?
