@ Nanonye you are very correct. No bank will give your spouse if it is not a joint account your balance not to talk of a third party.

I feel CIC have issues with sudden deposit of large sum into your account as POF when your account does not have history of such an amount in the whole 6months statement you printed and sent to them. It raises a red flag even for normal visa to any country. If you do, then you have to prove that the money is yours. Just my thinking anyway.

As for changing accounts, banks can print statement for old, closed and active accounts so you can asked for that as proof for CICs comfort.

Dear MOE, NO VISA OFFICE INCLUDING, CIC, have the right to check how much money you have in your account. They can never make any check to see if your funds are more or less than what you initially send with your application. All they can do is check to confirm the authenticity of the financial documents you sent. It is an unethical act for a bank to disclose the details of their customers account to a third party.
Your being in Canada for 5 years does not change this fact.

For now in readiness,Get the passport done immediately and all necessary things....passport photographs..

Its either you wait for your medicals to come before notifying them or if Floxzy can share the email address with which she was sent medical request,you can use it to notify them while you wait for their directives.
Just get set so that you wont be caught unaware.
