Minister Kenney issues statement on Nigerian Independence Day
Ottawa, October 1, 2014 – The Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister for Multiculturalism, issued the following statement to recognize Nigerian Independence Day:

“Today, people of Nigerian descent in Canada and around the world will celebrate the 54th anniversary of Nigeria’s sovereignty.

“Canadians of Nigerian origin have played an important role in building our country and they continue to make vital contributions to our economy and society. Today, it is estimated that nearly 20,000 Canadians are of Nigerian descent.

“Nigerian Independence Day is a joyous occasion marked with ceremonies, parades, and other cultural events. I encourage all Canadians to celebrate this important day with our Nigerian friends and colleagues.

“As Minister for Multiculturalism, I wish everyone celebrating a happy Nigerian Independence Day.”

Good day greats.

I have being pondering of late over a matter and i want us to share our knowledge about it.

Is it possible for a canadian permanent residence visa to be transferred from the old passport which is nearing expiration or has expired to a new one before leaving Nigeria for Canada. For example, ones passport will expire in August,2015 and let us say the person got his/her canadian permanent residence visa in January,2015.But the person wants to attend and all important function in september 2015; can the visa be transferred into the new passport if the person request for renewal before travelling?

How is the visa expiration for a passport that is about to expire worked out? I learnt that the date of expiration of the passport will be the date of expiration of the visa. How true is this?

the visa expires one year from the time your medicals is received or on the date of expiry of your passport, which ever is earliest

Group please i need your opinion!!!!!!!!!!. I received my MR a week ago, but my spouse lives in the UK while i am primarily resident in Nigeria. The question is can she have her medicals done in the UK, instead of flying over? I thot initially she could have her medicals done in the UK, since they do this emedical thing and we all have unique UCI numbers, but a senior who has landed has a very different opinion, which i need clarification from other experience applicants.

Hi

She can certainly have the medical in the UK, whilst you do yours in Nigeria. If you received via email, forward her request to her so she can proceed to do her medicals, as long as she has her passport and other required docs with her.

Peace!
