Congrats Burlington. Indeed God is faithful...His prophesy for the later part of this year being better and greater than early part has started to manifest...I pray the rest of us on the waiting list will also be partakers in Jesus name. I wish you all round favour in your stay/living in Canada.

Shalom.

Hello all. Nice to see so many have made progress on their apps. Congrats to all the AOR-ed, medicalled, visa-ed, landed, and PR-carded 9jas.

@ Right: You may check out

http://www.cicic.ca/383/foreign-credential-recognition.canada and http://www.credentials.gc.ca/individuals/credential.asp for a general overview of the whole evaluation process. Too much stuff on them though.

But of all the tons of info, the most useful ones are the sites of the evaluation bodies.

https://www.wes.org/ca/index.asp and http://www.icascanada.ca/home.php

It pays to get them done whilst in Nigeria, as it does take time for 9ja schools to respond, and one could maybe speed things up a bit before relocating by following up one's alma mater. I would also go for the option that stores the Transcripts in the evaluators' database to avoid scampering to 9ja everytime one needs to get transcripts. Of the two above, WES is more widely accepted, pretty much most places in Canada will be OK with an evaluation done by WES. Please try to do the evaluations thru WES canada. I'd done one thru WES-USA(for grad sch runs) a while back, but had to do it all again thru WES-Canada.

For the benefit of those who have already landed, there may be some of those newcomer settlement charities who might be able to help out with vouchers for Credential evaluation, though i do not know about eligibility criteria for the vouchers. Prospective landed: pls don't delay the evaluation till u land, cos of awoof vouchers o, the cost saving is nothing compared to the time it saves one and the benefits one would forgo from landing that job.

Any response
Depending on your destination in canada, school children get picked up by school buses at designated points, and they get dropped off at same point after school. There might be few instances where one wud have to ferry the kids to/fro school. At age 14, the teen will be going into Grade 8(final grade of elementary), and your lil one(s) will be going in to anywhere from Jnr kindergarten to grade 1 ..... maybe 3 or 4(depending on age). They'll probably only be in the same school for like a year at the most, as the teen will be progressing into High school at age 15, and if you want your kids going into a catholic school then you can be sure they won't get to see much of each other at school even during the one year.

Its a great idea to do the adoption thing, CiC would mostly be interested in the motive behind the adoption and would want to know if it is in the best interest of the child. Try to show that you've been actively involved in the child/teens upbringing for a considerable length of time to the extent that the teen will suffer if you suddenly leave her behind in Nigeria, and the birth parents have forgone their parental rights. The teen has been living with you some time, so it would be disruptive to just relocate without her.

Hello All:

Praise God got email to pick Visa up in Ghana.

Wish you all the best
Congrats! If you do choose to travel to Ghana, pls try not to go for the night bus options. Its too long a journey, and you could even fly for less on aero if booked well in advance. You can return same day if you fly. Some pple travel by bus, pay for hotels, and get stressed out navigating their way etc If you do choose to travel by night bus/coach, be wary of the currency converters at the border, they're all jazzed up. Cedis and dollars just start disappearing once you depart the post. I'll advise changing your currency in 9ja or wait till you get to Accra. more options if you go into Ghana with USD.

If going for courier option: Few DHL staff are fond of charging per passport, try to haggle or ask for a manager. It should be according to weight/size, and not the no. of docs in the parcel. And prices can vary too, how they do that - i have no idea.

The one i have and know about is the WES one. i learnt is very good. Just heard about it last week though. I went through it last night and would start the process for spouse and I next week. Like Oceana said it pays to chose the option of credential storage. All the best

@tinuadebola : thanks. I've been Ok, and so is the family. Just took a sabattical.
I'll try to chip in from time to time, but a lot has changed from my own time, so i guess some with more recent experience might be more of a help.
