Apologies if someone already posted this, I did search...

Did anyone notice that the CIC website info has changed regarding police clearances from the US states? It no longer states that they are "required", and the link to the states has been removed.

"Applicants should provide a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) certificate with fingerprints. State certificates may also be requested. The Visa Office will advise you if state certificates are required in your case."

Halleluja!

What a wonderful coincidence, as this was my huge worry and caught it at the top of the page!

I am still waiting on my FBI clearance letter and was about to freak when I thought about
getting the state clearance as well, as that's another set of fingerprinting, another fee, and another long wait.

I am so glad you posted this, thank you. :)

Ha, I was going to have to re-do 7 of them.

Won't get too comfortable, tho. In a month or two, they could change it again...

good information.. but i already got my state clearance and i am now waiting on FBI reply..

WOW, Thank you Guys for the info, I have already given my FBI and the City Police Clerence too, But the State one i did apply its in process now. If it is a rule State Clerence no needed, it might apply to all the applicants around the world i guess ha? because most of the clearence must clear from the CJIS. it is the same that i guess, if you would have given FBI. i believe its enough.

Yikes... Today, CIC updated the page again in the police clearance from US states ... The link is back for the States.

Doesn't say if they will advise you before or after you apply :(

Guess you will have to contact your local CIC office to find out. If you do, let us know what they say!

CIC Buffalo appears to want state PCCs by default. I will ask, but... they usually respond to my generic questions as "we do not respond to case-specific questions..."

it is better to get the state police clearance certificates also.. why to take a chance which could delay the processing...

Well, I actually got a response from CIC-Buffalo - it's a first!. They said that they would let applicants know if State PCCs were required. In my case, since I would need 7 and it is costly, I will wait for them to tell me I need them :).
