New Rule: 2, 1 year certificates(or 1+1,8+8) will now only give 2 years PGWP?

There is a message doing rounds, showing some "official" screenshots, saying that anymore students like me who have done 2 1 years permits, or 8+8/1+8 and so on, will only get a 2 year work permit anymore. Is this true?

Always look on the official Canada.ca

From now on only if the two combined programs is more than 2 years in program length will you get a 3 year work permit. Otherwise you will get only 2 years. Bridging on a one semester only program is also no longer allowed.

2 semesters is counted as a year, assuming you have scheduled breaks.

That's really bad news for us who have done 2 certificate programs.

Will we get points on our Express Entry, if we get 1 year experience from a job not in our field?

Express entry points are based on NOC code and not on doing a job in your field, at least to my knowledge.

I'm really confused.
Some people say they check only the 'Academic Years' and 2 sem = 1 Academic Year.
Those people are wrong. If your offer letter says 1 year then you will get 1 year only. If your offer letter says 1.5 years then you will get 1.5 years.

Hi everyone,

I have the same question about PGWP length. For example, if I do a program of 8 months and another one with 12 months. What will be the approximate length of PGWP? Will I get only 20 months of length?

The PGWP would map to length of the combined programs so 20 months. Not sure this is any different to the previous guidelines even for a single program where any program between 8-23 months would have have a PGWP issued to the equivalent program time.

. Ultimately expect visa officers do have some discretion but with the new guidelines the implication seems to be that the combined length of taking two programs must exceed 2 years to get 3 year PGWP, anything 2 years or less would map only to the combined total of the two programs as stated in any completion letter
