Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Hi all. I'm an American and my wife is sponsoring me, and I'm almost done with the first wave of paperwork! Yay! But, before I seal this all up and send it out, I had a couple last questions.

First, do I need to get a notarized copy of my driver's license? It doesn't explicitly say that, but I'm wondering if I should be sending that instead of my "national identity document". I am already sending my birth certificate and a notarized copy of my passport.

Also, it's almost guaranteed that my medical exam and FBI certificate will expire before this is all processed. Anyone know how do I send them new ones when the time comes?

VERY IMPORTANT:

I'm currently "in" Canada, but I want to apply OUTLAND as it's faster and can be appealed, and I can leave during that time. I'm having trouble figuring out how to make sure it's an OUTLAND application. There seems to be no differentiation. Can someone help?

Thanks!

Re: New couple of questions

I don't know the answer to your first question. Regarding medicals and FBI certificate potentially expiring before the application is processed, they will request it if required. There cases on this forum where medical exams were extended instead of asking the applicant to redo it.

Many countries issue a national ID card or document to every citizen; it isn't the same thing as a passport or driver's license.

The US doesn't issue such a card, so it isn't really applicable to you. It wouldn't hurt to include a photocopy of your license, no need to be notarized.

If a new medical or police check is required, CIC will request it and provide you with instructions.

If you are already sending in a copy of your official birth certificate and passport, then that should be enough.

The key is if they will expire before CIC receives the application. If they need new ones, they will request it.

Make sure you fill out the forms and follow the instructions for OUTLAND.

I agree with canuck_in_uk's response. including a photocopy of your licence would suffice. if it doesnt cost you time or money to get it notarized, then include it, if not i dont think its necessary.

CIC will contact you if they require any additional documents or new documents to replace expired ones. once the application is in process, apply for GCMS notes and that will also help you learn that documents are required.

If your wife is sponsoring you and she is Canadian PR, she will have to send the entire package to Mississauga CPC. in the application, you can request the VISA Office. and CIC will also determine your VISA Office depending on the address you give for yourself. Note that when you opt for outland, you have to make sure to give them an address for yourself that is outside Canada and so on....
If your wife is Canadian Citizen, then she can apply to her nearest CPC I think. please double check this.

Hope this helps.

I am also Canadian and my husband is American, we applied outland although he is here and I asked in a post which forms to send in, and this is the answer I got

"IMM3910 is all for your husband. IMM5491 is for you.

All the forms you need are here:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp

For part 3, pick the one for USA

You need all the forms in part 1 and 2, except the below which depends on your situation

For part 1:
-IMM5409 - only for common law. You are married so you don't need this
-IMM5476 -if you are submitting this application yourself (no lawyer) then you don't need this

For part 2:
-IMM5476 - if you are submitting this application yourself (no lawyer) then you don't need this
-IMM0008DEP - you only need this if you or your husband has other dependants (like kids) to list "

....I think the difference between inland and outland is adding in the USA in part 3...but not sure cuz I didn't look into inland too much.
we sent in our package for oct 31st as his fbi check expired a week later and I just wanted to get my sponsorship approved first, cuz I thought it would be easiest to travel in and out of country once I got it, which I did 3 weeks after they received it. let me know how things progress for you as we are similar!

cheers

On the CIC website there are two different application packages. One fuer applying within Canada (inland) and for application outside Canada (outland).

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/index.asp

If you are applying inside - sponsor family
If you are applying outside - sponsor family

This is wrong.
Even in an outland application, you can put at address in Canada. If you intend to stay in Canada as a visitor, worker or student during the entire processing time, there is no need to put an address anywhere else except Canada.

Also there is no choice where he can send the application. As a US citizen, it will go to CPP-Ottawa for applicant processing (after it's done at CPC-Mississauga)

Also to the original post, a drivers license is not required. A passport and birth certificate is more than enough proof of identity. In general no copy of a document needs to be certified at all, unless it needs to be translated. Regular photocopies are fine.

The forms are different, as noted above. As well, for outland you send the forms to Mississauga. For inland, they are sent to Vegreville.

Mailing address - Canadian
Residential address - American

Otherwise they will ask why you are living in Canada.

We put mailing address AND residential address as Canada for the outland app. So do many other people. You are allowed to "reside" in Canada while being a visitor.
