Hi

I have the oath ceremony on 5th Dec and I have to travel on work to the US on 8th Dec. My tickets are already booked. Is there an option to request for an express passport to get in a day? I understand we need to wait 48 hours after the oath to apply for Canadian passport. That leaves me only a day before my travel. Any suggestions? Anyone has experience of obtaining passport in a day? Thank you

Congrats. You don't have to wait 48 hours after the oath to apply for Canadian Passport meaning once your ECAS changes to "Complete" from "Decision made" (which they say it could take up to 48 hours) you can apply for passport. In my case it was updated very next day, and I applied for passport same day with no problem at all. Make sure to submit your application at Passport Canada office and not at Service Canada. When you are submit your application at Passport Canada office make sure to tell them you want to make Urgent application and want to go for express service. It should be ready for pickup either same day evening(if application made in the same day morning) or next business day, depends.

Thank you. I will keep checking ECAS after oath. Hopefully they will update quickly.

Exactly. That’s why I am concerned. If they update by Thursday and I apply on the same day, I might get it on Friday. Cutting it too close though

I suggest to change your plane tickets if possible.
At what time is the ceremony? It is likely that they only enter your info in the system on Thursday. So you may only apply on Friday which is probably too late.

At the ceremony they told us to wait at least one week before going abroad. So to be 100% sure to get the passport you should leave the next Wednesday. However, personally, I think that it is almost sure that you can get your passport on Monday. Friday is kind of a bet...

As @Goku correctly opined, you can apply for your pps the moment your e-CAS reflects "completed" (which usually is within 24hrs.). That's what I did. My e-CAS changed at 10AM (next day of the Oath), I was at the PPC office by 1PM.

PPC offers you a 24hrs service as well, off course at an additional fee. And you can pick-up your pps the very next day. I have observed that many folks' pps were printed within 10-12 hrs. However, they'd give you a pick-up date of next day, which could be in the AM too.

There are PPC offices where our pps are printed at the very same location. E.g. PPC-Mississauga. If you're in a serious, demonstratable emergency ~ you may apply for your pps early in the morning as the doors open (8AM), request for super urgency (they make a note w/out guarantee) and visit the office at PM to check if it is ready, even if the date is of the next day. I know of one case where she could obtain her pps the same day.

Hi Goku,

Can you also let me know what kind of questions the passport office will ask the guarantor and the references. I am planning to give my office colleagues names for guarantor and references so any information would be helpful. I can tell them what to expect. Thank you

There is just a 20% chance that the guarantor will be contacted. Nonetheless:
~Since when do you know him/her?
~Where does s/he work?
~What is his/her son's/daughter's name?

All generic queries, the above few or anything similar. The calls are usually for under 30 secs.

I went for the oath ceremony yesterday (11/15/2018) and I have applied for my passport this morning. All my details have been updated in the Passport Canada database... I was impressed!

Congratulations! Good to know about the quick update on passport Canada database. I will keep my application ready and submit as soon as they update the ECAS
