New OHIP card details

Hi all,

I had 2 questions for PRs applying for new OHIP card.

1) The obligatory 3-month waiting period: does this commence from landing date, or after you have applied for OHIP at ServiceOntario?
2) Proof of residency:
- We showed them bank statement and property tax bill; however both these documents were dated 1 month prior to landing date. So they did not accept it. Can you advise further on this?
- They want proof of residency for spouse separately (she lives at the same address as the principal applicant), but they need a monthly statement with just her name on it. Does this mean we have to open a separate bank account just for her and then wait for a monthly statement?

1 - It starts from landing date. There is no need to rush to get a health card right away, as anytime during the 3 months waiting time is fine.

2 - You must have a proof of residency specifically from "List 2" of this document, dated AFTER she landed. http://www.forms.ssb.gov.on.ca/mbs/ssb/forms/ssbforms.nsf/GetFileAttach/014-9998E-82~1/$File/9998-82E.pdf

Within 3 months you should be able to come up with 1 of these acceptable documents.
