New Language Testing Option for CEC (CELPIP)

so does it mean that CELPIP isnt a new test? how "old" is it? this is the first time i heard its name.. i did take my IELTs before.

It is newer compare to IELTS, therefore IELTS has more resources and materials! they just allowed CELPIP to be part of CEC this year!

Not if no one decides to take it! Seems like most applicants are still sticking with IELTS.

I believe there are more major reason than that one. Even those applying in Canada are taking the IELTS test instead of CELPIP. Most people I know that took CELPIP was becaus they thought IELTS was difficult and couldn't get the desire score they need so they are trying CELPIP

In Ontario I can see all their exams in all centers are booked until March end. I also saw as soon as they open a new dates it is getting booked very fast. So there are many people trying for CELPIP also and there is a rush.

I like it not because I earned less score in IELTS but their exam format - computer oriented - seems very promising for me as I am into software field and I can type 2 pages essay 5 times faster than I write. In IELTS I really struggled writing using pencil!! Also it is not a whole day exam, 3 hours only hence less hassle. I think these also some of the main reason many are trying for this.

shibinp, Same here. I also a software engineer and very difficult to use pencil now a days.

Did you get a chance to talk with CELPIP team for correct marks etc.. becuase My NOC code is 2173 as well as need to achieve CLB 7 Band means in IELTS 6 band in each modules or 4L in CEPLIP.

Hence, I don't know how CELPIP team will score the marks.. It's very interesting.

Don't too much worry comparing the marks against IELTS, both exams has it's own format. We can say IELTS 6 = 4L in CELPIP, but it is just a rough idea. In both exams they are testing our English proficiency and the marks are just the standard for the measurement. So we need to improve our English and if we are good in that we will get the required marks. If you go like I need to answer these many questions to pass, we are worrying about only answering questions not about our English proficiency which I would say not good and may give bad result. So don't too much worry about how they calculate mark etc. but concentrate on English improvement then we will get what we need.

Also I would suggest to you to buy their online training course (if you buy while registering you will get some discount) there we can try the real format of exam multiple time - so we will get a practice too..

I didn't get a chance to check with them about marks, when I get time I will check and let you know..

Hello,

I am also writing for CELPIP, I bought their online course to know how exactly the exam goes and it is very useful too.
To get 4L in all sections you need..

In Listening you need to get 38 out of 45.
In Reading you need to get 31 out of 35.
In speaking and writing they are verifying manually, so it depends on how well you speaking and writing ( typing ) on the exam.
