Found this on another thread and its worth a share. It talks about what happens with a file in the background and when statuses are updated and a reflection of what is happening behind the scenes:

The whole Process;

Stage-1: [CIO stage] Send Initial Apps+Processing Fees to CIO-NS > Qualitative Check > Issue of AOR+120 days Letter >

Stage-2: [CHC stage onwards] Send Full Docs+RPRF to the Local Visa Office > File on Queue > e-Cas: "Received by Visa Office" > Eligibility Check > Issue of 2nd AOR > Background Check > Issue of Additional docs Request [ If any ] > e-Cas: "In Process" > Send Addnl. Docs [ If Any ] > Issue of Med Request [ if not expired ]

Stage-3: Meds Sent > e-Cas gets a Third line: "Medical Results Received " > Request of PPR by Email > Send Passport(s) > Security Check > Visa/s Stamped > e-Cas: "Decision Made" >
*The Meds & PPR are sometimes 'clubbed' together.

Stage-4: Return of 'Stamped' Passport/s+COPR > Landing at the POE > once you land in Canada, e-Cas: " completed "

Ok that explains some things. . So does that mean AR is stage 1, right?

E-cas not working, Hope for the best Jai Mata Di :)

No, you would be stage 2 as the file only gets transferred to NDVO after the initial sponsor application is approved at CPC Sydney. The AOR that you received was from New Delhi confirming your file has been received by New Delhi from CPC Sydney. So, once you've passed eligibility and some checks, your application should go into "In Process" status and then PPR/DM and then the journey of life together.

Guys I'm a May applicant. My wife is in India who is the sponsored person. Still waiting for the application to be IP.

My question is ..Is it required for my wife to go to the VFS office in person to handover the passport or she can send someone else to handover on her behalf...?

The applicant has to sign a liability waiver as the original passport is being submitted to VFS. So, it has to be in person, I guess.

Are you relatively sure that the Eligibility Check, happens before the Issue of 2nd AOR and not after?

I've just referenced somebody's post, but the major statuses are outlined in red, so essentially if the application status changes to "In Process", you should have passed the eligibility check. It just outlines major events that happen before major status updates, in no particular order ("medicals received" is also updated before an application status changes to "In Process" these days as opposed to what I've quoted where it says it happens after application goes to "In Process" status)

Please let us know the timeline for your wife's processing ? Did you apply through an immigration lawyer ?
