The reason Iam asking this question is because there is conflicting information on the validity of PR. Some folks are saying its 2 years and then its up for renewal and some are saying its 5 years to begin with.
So I thought there must few ppl here who have received their PR cards and might have an answer to my query.
TIA.
You must live in Canada for 2 out of 5 years, if you want to maintain your PR status. After 3 years, you are eligible for citizenship, you can apply for it. or if you are not eligible or if you do not want to obtain citizenship, you can simply renew your PR Card 6 months before expiry provided you meet the residency obligations of 2 years ( need not be continuous ).
Many get PR status, but due to personal reasons, they end up living outside Canada for 2-4 years. Later they enter Canada in the 4 th or 5 th year and live here continuously for 2 years and then renew their PR card.
You mostly need PR card to re-enter Canada.
