Hi guys! Apologies for asking the same question again, but would appreciate if someone who has received their PR card can answer.

What's the validity of the card, two years or five years?
Thanks!

You should probably ask this question in some other forum where people have received their PR cards.
Rest of us can answer your question based on what we read in CIC or if we have seen our spouse's PR Cards.

it is valid for 5 years.

The reason Iam asking this question is because there is conflicting information on the validity of PR. Some folks are saying its 2 years and then its up for renewal and some are saying its 5 years to begin with.
So I thought there must few ppl here who have received their PR cards and might have an answer to my query.
TIA.

You must live in Canada for 2 out of 5 years, if you want to maintain your PR status. After 3 years, you are eligible for citizenship, you can apply for it. or if you are not eligible or if you do not want to obtain citizenship, you can simply renew your PR Card 6 months before expiry provided you meet the residency obligations of 2 years ( need not be continuous ).

Many get PR status, but due to personal reasons, they end up living outside Canada for 2-4 years. Later they enter Canada in the 4 th or 5 th year and live here continuously for 2 years and then renew their PR card.

You mostly need PR card to re-enter Canada.

Holy sh*t...you were an April 8th, 2014 applicant and you are already in Canada. Nice! We applied on April 8th, 2014 as well and we are still stuck on Application Received.

I don't understand why you won't just call the CIC....buddy you are in Canada now...just call or email them and 5-10 minutes you will get all your answers. Most importantly answers you can rely on....dependable information. Not this guessing game. My 2 cents worth on this question is.....that the PR card is valid for 5 years. There must be an expiry date on the card (may be at the back). Again its better to verify with CIC.

Here is their toll free Call Centre telephone number: 1-888-242‑2100 (Mon-Fri: 8am-4pm local time). Ask them you want to know the expiry date of your PR card. They will direct you. All the best!

I know Magicman. Our files are not even moving. Have you send the additional documents to NDVO yet?

Bro did you get your PR card yet?? if not then wait until you get it and you can see that actually the validity of PR card is 5 years. I landed in 2011 and validity on my card is upto 2016. So relax don't think too much. And btw why do you want to know about the validity of PR card?? no one will throw you out of the country lol
