I am writing this follow-up post which would be helpful for all people with DM status.

- Got DM last Tuesday. I did not receive any call from the CIC.
- My passport arrived this afternoon. It came by registered post and was delivered by the postman. There was no strict procedure followed like in with UK/Schengen where you have to first show your passport copy and then you get the passport.
- The package came with my current passport and the previous ones that I submitted. Along with it there were 2 forms titled "Confirmation of Permanent Residence" which proved my basic information, my personal details and my application and medical details i.e. just summarizing dates and addresses. One form had my pport pic and the other was just a copy.
- There was another document titled "Visa information Important".
- The documents were literally shoved into the envelope and were quite crumpled.
- I have an existing 10 year Canadian visa which they haven't cancelled, so I don't know whether that is still held valid, or it becomes null and void once the P.R. is issued.
- Apart from my marriage certificate which was an original that I got back, nothing else that I had submitted was returned.

So please don't panic if you haven't received a call from the office. In all probability your passport is in the mail and will reach you in a week/10 days.

Congratulations. Happy journey.
Thanks for posting a detailed note. Many used to be having the doubt and asking what happens after DM. You have given the simultaneous information of DM and next day passport, original doucments, forms.
You need a visa to enter Canada for your PR so they might not have cancelled it and on arrival at Canada the Immigration people on entry would cancel the visa to process issuance of PR card. All the best.

Hi,

My husband applied for my visa in October in Mississauga, Canada. Once the sponsorship evaluation got over it was forwarded to Delhi. These are the details of my application:
Visa Office......: New Delhi
App. Filed.......: 17th Oct 2013
AOR Received.: 2nd Nov 2013
File Transfer...:27th Nov 2013
Passport Req..: 17th Dec 2013

Could anyone tell me how long it will take for getting my Visa?
Now the processing speed is good At this rate you can expect in first/ second week of July. All the best.

My medical is expiring in 5 days....do I still have any chance? :(

There are good chances as they have already issued visa for one 8th August applicant on 9th may. Lets hope for the best. Good luck!

Hi,

I am in the same boat. My visa is valid till 2015 and my spousal application is in process.

Did they stamped your passport with new visa or you have to travel with this same previous visa?

my partner has been asked to redo medicals and we are planning to send passport along with emedical receipt. Or to buy some time we might do medicals now and then send passport after request. When they issue confirmation of permanent residence, how long is the visa valid? the new medical exams would be valid for a year and I don't think COPR will be valid for a year. So how much time does visa office gives an applicant to leave India? Wonder if there would be enough time to resign job etc.

it may not happen since they are not that cruel to ask you to leave the country in 5 days...more likely they will extend your medical expiration date and ask you to leave in two weeks....
